International call-ups for sixteen Bayern stars

Postby FCBayernNews » Mon Aug 08, 2011 7:10 pm

After Sunday's Bundesliga meeting between FCB and Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayern's eight Germany internationals just had time to give a few quotes to reporters, before boarding two waiting minibuses for the trip to Stuttgart, where Germany play Brazil on Wednesday night. The match actually features a total of nine Munich men, as the club also has a player poised to make his Selecao debut.

All in all, 16 of the senior squad are away from Munich on international duty this week, making a normal training schedule impossible for Jupp Heynckes and his staff. The absentees will only be back in Munich on Thursday, just two days prior to the crucial Bundesliga meeting with VfL Wolfsburg. "It's hugely positive to have such a large group of players in the Germany squad, but it's also an additional burden," commented Heynckes. Another plus is the fact that the Bayern men have no time at all to dwell on the bitter league defeat to Gladbach. fcbayern.de lists the matches involving FCB stars this week.

Germany - Brazil
Manuel Neuer, Jerome Boateng, Holger Badstuber, Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Müller, Toni Kroos and Mario Gomez all nurture justifiable hopes of featuring against the five-time world champions. "It's an ideal situation for Löw," said FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. The block of Bayern stars are all looking forward to Wednesday's game. "It's an interesting match up, and we all want to play a part," said keeper Manuel Neuer.

Another factor of interest is whether Luiz Gustavo will make his senior debut for Brazil. The FCB midfielder has received a maiden Selecao call-up from boss Mano Menezes. "I know Luiz well. He's better at brining the ball forward than many of the other players I've tested," Menezes explained.

England - Netherlands
Another of Wednesday's bigger matches takes place at Wembley, where England entertain the Netherlands. Bayern winger Arjen Robben is in the Dutch squad and is expected to spark his side's attacking efforts against the Three Lions.

Ireland - Croatia
Dublin is the destination for both Daniel Pranjic and Ivica Olic, who returns to his national set-up after eight months on the sidelines with knee and cartilage damage. Coach Slaven Bilic has called up six further Bundesliga players for the match.

Austria - Slovakia
David Alaba is fighting for regular status at FCB, but he is already one of the first names on the team-sheet for Austria. The 19-year-old and his team-mates face Slovakia in Klagenfurt.

Ukraine - Sweden
EURO 2012 co-hosts Ukraine include Anatoliy Tymoshchuk in their squad for the friendly meeting with Sweden in Kharkov.

Slovenia - Belgium
Towering defender Daniel van Buyten was only a sub for Sunday's Bundesliga restart fixture, but the centre-back could well get a run-out in Ljubljana, where Belgium play Slovenia.

U-21: Germany - Cyprus
The match represents a long-awaited debut for Diego Contento. The Bayern youth product features in the Germany U-21 squad for the first time for the European championship qualifier against Cyprus on Tuesday. "Injuries have kept preventing Diego playing for our team. We're delighted he's available at last, bang on time for the qualifying competition," said boss Rainer Adrion.

Other Bayern internationals
France coach Laurent Blanc declined to nominate Franck Ribéry for a friendly meeting with Chile in Montpellier, as the winger has only just returned to action following an ankle injury. The left-sided dribbler has remained in Munich to prepare for the Wolfsburg clash.

Finally, Takashi Usami was called up for Japan's U-21 friendly in Egypt, but Bayern have declined to release the forward so soon after his arrival in Munich.

Gee -- All these friendlies should help for our upcoming game against Wolfsburg (who won't have as many on Intls). Great, real F**King great. Play all of Dortmunds german intls as well as other team's players. These friendlies don't need to happen.

The fact that most of our starting 11 will be playing in the same game (Germany-Brazil), I do not think it will be that much of a problem. We will be more tired, but the players will also be playing together, with a different style of football. Maybe they somehow recreate the German NT style against Wolfsburg on Saturday. That's how we should be playing.
