Heynckes: We played some excellent football

Postby FCBayernNews » Wed Feb 20, 2013 3:50 am

Bayern have twice overcome Arsenal in the Champions League in the past, and are now well-positioned to make it three out of three in their knockout meetings with the Gunners, after Jupp Heynckes' men planted one foot in the quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory in the Round of 16 first leg. "It's a good result, but it's not over yet," warned Bastian Schweinsteiger, looking ahead to the return at the Allianz Arena on 13 March.

Reaction to Arsenal v Bayern:

Jupp Heynckes: "It always rates as a big success when you win 3-1 away to an English team. We made a terrific start, and especially in the first half, we played some excellent football. Later on, we all saw that our opponents have Champions League quality. We had to roll up our sleeves and work hard. Even after we conceded the goal we looked dangerous on the break, and we threatened in front of goal time and time again. We deserved to win 3-1."

Bastian Schweinsteiger: "We really got going well, especially in the first 30 minutes, when we let the ball and our opponents do the work. We were ruthless, especially in terms of taking our chances, but the third goal was vital too. We mustn't underestimate Arsenal, they have some very good players, and we'll have to give it 100 percent in the return. Arsenal aren't just dropping by as tourists. It's a good result, but it's not over yet."

Toni Kroos: "We were outstanding for very long spells against a top European club. There was a phase just before and just after the break when Arsenal got at us, but you'll never entirely prevent that. They failed to create clear-cut chances, but it hurts to let in a goal, and it shouldn't be happening."

Thomas Müller: "It was a good team performance and I made a contribution, which is what I try to do. I'm always there or thereabouts for corners, looking to pick up the loose ball. I'm probably quite effective in those situations, because I have quick reactions. There are a few folk on the planet who might also have scored it, but I was in the right place, and I'm delighted."

Arsène Wenger (Arsenal coach): "It'll obviously be unbelievably tough in the return, but we'll try everything we know to make it happen. Things sometimes change very quickly, and there are still three weeks to go. We're not giving up hope, and we'll try and show the best of Arsenal in the return."

Lukas Podolski: "The result speaks volumes. Especially in the first half, Bayern put us under huge pressure and played very well. We started well after the break and deservedly pulled one back, which is what we said we'd do at half-time. But at the end of the day we've lost 3-1. It'll now be very, very difficult for us away from home."

^^ Let him, as long as he scores and assists why not?

As long as he has a reason to brag about what he does, then let him be

I'm not complaining there. In fact, I wouldn't want him to act any other way ;)
