Heynckes and Ribéry equal records

Postby FCBayernNews » Wed Feb 21, 2018 12:45 am

Bayern's last sixteen first leg against Besiktas was not only a goal fest but also yielded a number of interesting stats. fcbayern.com has compiled the numbers after the match.

2 - FC Bayern have scored at least twice in all of their eight competitive fixtures after the winter break.

5 – The 5-0 victory over Besiktas was the biggest home victory a team has ever achieved in the Champions League knock-out rounds.

9 – Only nine players have scored more Champions League goals than Robert Lewandowski. The Poland international netted a brace on Tuesday, taking his tally to 45 goals in Europe's premier club competition, surpassing Didier Drogba on 44.

10 - Jupp Heynckes now boasts ten Champions League victories in succession, equalling the record set by Louis van Gaal from 2000 to 2009 and by Carlo Ancelotti from 2014 to 2015.

14 – Heynckes has won 14 competitive matches on the bounce for the first time in his career as a coach, equalling the club record set by Pal Csernai from August to October 1980.

35 – Bayern took 35 shots on Tuesday night. The 2012 Champions League final was the only match where the German record champions clocked up more shots, 43 over 120 minutes.

62 - FC Bayern have not lost any of their last 62 competitive matches when Müller scored, winning 59 and drawing three.

89 – Franck Ribéry made his 89th European appearance for FC Bayern on Tuesday, drawing equal with Klaus Augenthaler and Hasan Salihamidzic. Along with FCB's sporting director, Ribéry is the non-German player with the most appearances for FCB on the European stage. Only four players have worn Bayern colours more often in European competition.

Maybe it’s "first leg only"?

It's home first leg in the knockout stages. Those three games were all home second leg(after dismal performances in the first away leg each time, mind you).

edit: I think the distinction is rather important because in the second leg the weaker team can't just play to limit the damage but has to attack. Hence larger score lines.
