Hargreaves' special memory of Hertha

Postby FCBayernNews » Mon Jan 20, 2020 5:55 pm

The Reds' 4-0 win over Hertha would have also brought back fond memories for ex-Bayern player Owen Hargreaves. On 12 August 2000, he made his professional debut as a 19-year-old in the record champions' 4-1 victory at home to the Old Lady. The central midfielder came on as a substitute for Carsten Jancker in the 73rd minute and went on to became an integral part of the Bayern side in the years that followed.

On 23 May 2001, Hargreaves celebrated the greatest triumph of his then young career, winning the Champions League.

At the end of only his first season, Hargreaves lifted the Bundesliga title as well as the Champions League trophy. In total, the former England international made 218 appearances in the no. 23 shirt for Bayern, collected three more league titles and three DFB Cups as well as one Intercontinental Cup and one DFB-Ligapokal. Hargreaves moved to Manchester United in summer 2007 but was forced to retire in 2012 due to persistent knee problems. Today (20 January) he celebrates his 39th birthday - many happy returns!
