Hainer, Salihamidžić and Kahn on the Champions League resump

Postby FCBayernNews » Fri Aug 07, 2020 2:05 pm

Bayern face Chelsea on Saturday in the Champions League round of 16 second leg looking to book their place in the finals tournament in Lisbon. After the 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge and a 17-match winning run, president Herbert Hainer, as well as board members, Hasan Salihamidžić and Oliver Kahn, believe Hansi Flick’s side are well placed for the resumption of European competition.

Herbert Hainer

“The team has played incredibly well since the winter break, and especially since the restart after the coronavirus break. They’ve played attractive, forward-looking attacking football. It’s not just that we’ve won almost every game, but also the way the team has played, how they have dominated games, has been really impressive.”

Hasan Salihamidžić

“We’ve done a really good job so far in the Champions League, getting through the group stage without dropping a point and winning the round of 16 first leg at Chelsea. After ending the domestic season with titles in the league and cup, we can now focus completely on the continuation of the Champions League, which first of all means only the second leg against Chelsea at the Allianz Arena on Saturday. Hansi Flick and his coaching staff will make sure the team are top fit again for the second restart, and with all respect to Chelsea, I’m confident. Should we qualify for the Champions League tournament in Portugal, it’ll pose a unique challenge for our boys, with it being like a World Cup, with a single knockout match per round. However, the conditions are the same for everyone and we have to take things as they come. But we’re not there yet. First, we have to face Chelsea.”

Oliver Kahn

“As we know, the team has had an excellent Champions League campaign in the group stage and with the 3-0 win over Chelsea in the first game. Nevertheless, that means nothing. We now also have to play the second leg.”
