Good omen before the winter break

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Dec 16, 2017 8:15 pm

FC Bayern travel to face Stuttgart in the last Bundesliga match of the year on Saturday, and the German record champions are buoyed by a good omen. FC Bayern have not lost the final league match of the year in 15 years, winning ten and drawing five games. The last defeat on Matchday 17 dates back to the 2001/02 season, when Bayern lost 1-0 away to Hansa Rostock. fcbayern.com has collected more facts and figures prior to the Southern derby.

Milestone derby

Bayern travel to face Stuttgart for the 50th time, and their last defeat on foreign soil dates back to November 2007, when they lost 3-1. The away record favours the men from Munich, who have won 27, lost 12 and drawn ten matches, scoring 86 and conceding 60 goals.

15 victories on the bounce

Bayern's recent record against the Swabians is impressive. Bayern left the pitch as winners in all of their last 15 competitive fixtures (Bundesliga and DFB Cup). In total VfB Stuttgart have lost 61 Bundesliga matches against Bayern, conceding 200 goals, more than against any other club.

Strong record against promoted sides

Another record favours Bayern. Clubs making the leap from the second tier to the Bundesliga tend to struggle against the German record champions, to say the least. FC Bayern have won all of their last 30 matches against promoted teams, scoring 99 and conceding only 19 goals. The last time Bayern dropped points against a promoted side dates back to August 2010, when they lost 2-0 away to Kaiserslautern.

Stuttgart strong at home

But beware! The Swabians are among the league's strongest teams on their home field, having taken 16 of their 17 points at the Mercedes Benz Arena. VfB have only conceded four goals at home, a best-mark equalled only by FC Bayern.

Ittrich in charge

Patrick Ittrich will be the man in the middle on Saturday. The 38-year-old policeman from Hamburg takes charge of a match involving the Reds for the first time this season. Ittrich's assistants will be Norbert Grudzinski and Sascha Thielert, with René Rohde acting as fourth official.
