Goals for Mandzu and Pizza, first cap for Dante

Postby FCBayernNews » Thu Feb 07, 2013 10:20 am

The France-Germany clash in Paris featured seven Bayern men, and seven more travelled the world this week to represent their national teams: Mario Mandzukic (Croatia), late call-up Arjen Robben (Netherlands), Dante (Brazil), Daniel van Buyten (Belgium), David Alaba (Austria), Anatoliy Tymoshchuk (Ukraine) and Claudio Pizarro (Peru). fcbayern.de reviews how the FCB players fared on Wednesday evening.

Easy does it for Mandzu
Bundesliga top scorer Mandzukic enjoyed a highly successful afternoon with Croatia against South Korea in a match played at Fulham's Craven Cottage in London. The East Europeans won 4-0, with in-form Mandzukic opening the scoring after 33 minutes. Darijo Srna (41), Nikica Jelavic (57) and Mladen Petric (85) rounded off a comfortable victory.

Dream come true for Dante
Dante was called up to the Brazil squad for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and his greatest dream became a reality on Wednesday evening when Selecao boss Luiz Felipe Scolari picked the Bayern centre-back to start the prestige friendly against England at Wembley in London alongside Chelsea stopper David Luiz.

Dante even covered the full 90 minutes and turned in a solid display on his senior international debut, although he was unable to prevent his side falling to defeat. Wayne Rooney opened for the home side after 26 minutes, and although Fred equalised three minutes after half-time, Frank Lampard scored the winner with half an hour to play. The outcome could have been a lot different if Ronaldinho had not missed a 19th-minute penalty.

A half for Robben against Italy
The Dutch appeared set for a morale-boosting victory over Italy in Amsterdam, as Louis van Gaal's team lead through Jeremain Lens' 33rd-minute goal, only for Paris St Germain striker Marco Verratti to level in stoppage time. Robben, called up to the Netherlands squad as a replacement for the injured Jan-Klaas Huntelaar, came on as a half-time substitute.

Van Buyten makes start for Belgium
Van Buyten is currently a first-choice centre back at Bayern, and the veteran returned to the Belgium starting line-up for Wednesday's meeting with Slovakia. Daniel marshalled his defence capably as the Red Devils ran up a 2-1 victory with goals from Eden Hazard and Dries Mertens.

Alaba and Austria downed in Swansea
David Alaba played the full 90 minutes for Austria at Liberty Stadium in Swansea, but Wales recorded a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Gareth Bale (21) and Sam Vokes (52), Marc Janko replying for the visitors 15 minutes from the end.

Victory for Tymo in Seville
Tymoshchuk and his Ukraine team-mates defeated Norway 2-0 in a match held in the southern Spanish city of Seville. Mykola Morozyuk (17) and Andriy Yarmolenko (42) scored the goals, with Tymo starting the match before being substituted in the 63rd minute.

Pizza a winner with Peru
Pizarro played a key role in Peru's 2-0 victory away to Trinidad and Tobago in Port of Spain. The FCB man scored the opening goal after 29 minutes, with Rinaldo Cruzado sealing victory for the South Americans two minutes from time.
