Gnabry and Lewandowski score as Germany and Poland win

Postby FCBayernNews » Sun Mar 24, 2019 11:55 pm

With five Bayern players in their starting line-up and an excellent goal from Serge Gnabry, Germany got their UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying campaign off to a winning start on Sunday evening. Die Mannschaft ran out 3-2 winners in Amsterdam in their high-profile Group C clash with the Netherlands. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer captained the side, Niklas Süle lined up in front of him, Joshua Kimmich played in midfield while Gnabry (substituted in the 88th minute) and Leon Goretzka (substituted in the 70th minute) featured in attack.

With this Bayern spine, Joachim Löw's side started strongly and took the lead through Leroy Sané in the 15th minute. Neuer then had to make two fine saves in quick succession to prevent the equaliser before Gnabry's sublime shot into the top corner extended the Germans' lead before half-time. The hosts drew level in the second period with goals from Matthijs de Light (48) and Memphis Depay (63) but Nico Schulz's last-minute winner ensured victory for Germany.

Robert Lewandowski was also on target as Poland made it two wins from two games in Group G. The Bayern striker headed his team in front against Latvia in the 76th minute, and Kamil Glick wrapped up the three points eight minutes later.
