Gap in Lewandowski's CV and Müller's run

Postby FCBayernNews » Fri Apr 12, 2019 3:50 pm

During Bayern's 5-0 thrashing of Dortmund on Matchday 28, Robert Lewandowski shattered the 200-goal barrier in the Bundesliga, becoming only the fifth player in history to do so. So it's hard to believe there's still a gap in the Poland player's goalscoring CV. The striker has netted in his career against 17 of the 18 current Bundesliga clubs - but is yet to do so against Fortuna Düsseldorf. On Sunday, however, he has the chance to change that in a direct clash with the team from the Rhineland. has put together more interesting facts and figures about the game.

Lewandowski can get some tips on how to score goals against Düsseldorf from his teammate Thomas Müller. The 29-year-old netted in all three of his Bundesliga encounters with them, scoring a total of five goals. Among the current Bundesliga players, only Frankfurt's Luka Jovic has scored as many goals against the Bundesliga new boys as the born-and-bred Bavarian.

Fortuna have had to endure seven successive home defeats in the Bundesliga against the German record champions  - more than against any other team in Germany's top tier. In the four most recent ties against the team from the Rhine, the Bavarians didn't concede a single goal. The last defeat in Düsseldorf was a 4-0 reverse in September 1985, almost 34 years ago.

Düsseldorf have lost more often against FCB and conceded more goals than against any other team in the Bundesliga: 27 of the 47 clashes so far ended with the record champions on top, ten were draws and a further ten were won by Fortuna, resulting in a goal ratio of 109:62 in Bayern's favour. The Reds are unbeaten against F95 (seven wins, two draws) since a 0-1 loss in the Munich Olympic Stadium in April 1991 - but Friedhelm Funkel's team defied the reigning champions in the reverse fixture by drawing 3-3 in the Allianz Arena.

Düsseldorf are indeed among the positive surprises this season. With 37 points after 28 games, last year's promotion winners are enjoying their best season for 28 years. In the 1990/91 campaign, using the current 3-point ranking system, they would even have had 41 points at the same stage. Currently sitting 16 points above the relegation play-off place, Fortuna will surely remain in the Bundesliga in the coming season.
