Former FCB player Sandro Wagner retires

Postby FCBayernNews » Sun Aug 02, 2020 9:00 pm

Servus, Sandro! After 13 years, ex-Bayern pro Sandro Wagner is hanging up his football boots. "I'm incredibly grateful that football has given me a wonderful life. I've been able to realise all my goals and dreams," the former Germany international explained in an interview with the German newspaper Bild and said farwell to everyone who had supported him during his career: "Thanks to all my coaches and players. Thanks to all my fans. In Germany, we have the greatest stadiums and the best fans in the world!"

Coaching plans following playing career

However, the Munich-born player will remain true to football and plans to start training as a coach in September: "My plan is to enter the coaching profession next summer," says Wagner, who most recently worked for the Chinese club Tianjin Teda.

The now 32-year-old started playing in the German record champions' youth team in the summer of 2002, and he made his first professional appearance in a league cup match in July 2007 before making his Bundesliga debut shortly afterwards. After winning the domestic double with the Reds in 2008, the striker moved to MSV Duisburg and had further spells at Werder Bremen, 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Hertha BSC, SV Darmstadt 98 and 1899 Hoffenheim before returning to his home club.

Two-time German cup champion and cup winner with Bayern

In his second spell with FCB, Wagner won the 2018 championship and the Supercup. The striker played a total of 38 competitive matches for FC Bayern, in which he scored eleven goals. In addition to five trophies with the Reds, Wagner can also look back on winning the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup with the German national team as well as the U-21 European Championship title in 2009.

The focus for the current generation of Bayern players  over the past few days was squarely on the Audi Digital Summer Tour:
