Final session of term for double-winning FCB

Two trophies, a major final and a host of new admirers rate as the highlights of a long and memorable season at Bayern. Some 30,000 fans packed the Marienplatz and countless more lined the motorcade route on Sunday in a joyous and fitting finale to an eventful but thoroughly successful campaign.

The playing and coaching staff reported to the Säbener Strasse facility for the last time this term on Monday for a gentle workout ahead of the club's official summer vacation. However, there is no respite for a fair number of the players, who will join their national squads in the next couple of days to begin gearing up for the World Cup in South Africa.

Stretching and lunch

"The idea was to meet one more time, do some regeneration work and have the normal medical checks, so everyone goes on holiday or joins their national teams nice and fit," Philipp Lahm revealed to The medical unit's examination included routine weight and body fat measurements.

Following a gentle jog and stretching exercises, the players and coaches gathered for lunch, and a semi-formal farewell to Darcy Norman. The 38-year-old, "a very good and important fitness and rehab coach" according to Louis van Gaal, is returning to the USA for personal reasons after two years at Bayern.

Farewell to Norman

"I'll always have one lasting memory of Bayern, the importance of family. Mia san mia, mia san my family," Norman declared from the Town Hall balcony on Sunday. The team took their turn to wish the coach well following Monday's final session of the season.

One by one, the players left the Säbener Strasse performance centre in the course of the afternoon and set off for their next destinations. "I think it's good for the players to get away for a while, either on holiday or to their national teams, so they have a little time for themselves or their families," said Lahm.

Seven FCB men for Germany

Lahm and the other six Germany internationals have no break to speak of, as they are due at a national team training camp in South Tyrol on Tuesday and Wednesday. "Once you're there and see everyone again, you're totally motivated. The World Cup only comes round once every four years, so it's very special," Lahm declared.
