FCB Women knocked out in Paris

Postby FCBayernNews » Fri Mar 31, 2017 9:20 am

FCB Women’s adventure in the Champions League came to an end on Wednesday night at the Parc des Princes in Paris. The Bayern ladies lost 4-0 to PSG in the second leg of their first ever quarter-final in the competition having beaten the favourites 1-0 in the first leg.

In front of a crowd of 12,000, the visitors fell behind early on in the first half through goals from Marie-Laure Delie and Cristiane before Shirley Cruz made it 3-0 shortly before the interval. Cristiane made sure of the result in the 52nd minute with her second goal. To make things worse for Bayern, Lena Lotzen was forced off with an injury shortly after coming on as a substitute.

Early double blow

Both teams started with the same line-up as the first leg six days ago. As expected, PSG began on the front foot and were ruthless in taking their first two chances. Both goals came from free-kicks as the hosts went 2-0 up within 12 minutes.

Bayern recovered from this early shock and grew into the game, but the French side continued to threaten. Delie fired over in the 20th minute and was denied by Tinja-Riikka Korpela in the 31st minute but 11 minutes later, the FCB goalkeeper could do nothing to stop Cruz making it 3-0. In the closing stages of the first half, Sara Dabritz and Vivianne Miedema tried to get a goal back for Bayern but they were off target.

Unfortunate injury to Lotzen

The hosts didn’t let up after the restart. Cristiane again beat Korpela one-on-one to increase PSG’s lead in the 52nd minute. FCB then brought on two reinforcements in Lisa Evans and Lotzen but sadly the latter limped off the field shortly afterwards and was replaced by Viktoria Schnaderbeck.

The Munich ladies kept trying to at least score a consolation goal but a header from Caroline Abbé in the 71st minute was as close as they came and it finished 4-0.
