FCB without Ribéry and Neuer in Dortmund

Postby FCBayernNews » Fri Jul 26, 2013 4:10 pm

Two weeks prior to the start of the new Bundesliga season, the first highlight of the new campaign takes place on Saturday evening when treble winners Bayern visit Borussia Dortmund. It is no friendly either, because 63 days after the sides last met at Wembley in the Champions League final, there is another trophy at stake, namely the DFL German Supercup.

"We want to win the match, we want to succeed, we want a good start to the season," Bayern board member for sport Matthias Sammer declared in the build-up to the clash at Signal Iduna Park in front of a capacity crowd of more than 80,000. "The first proper cup is at stake," said FCB captain Philipp Lahm, although the skipper had a word of warning: "Playing in Dortmund isn't easy, as we all know."

Last year, Munich defeated the same opponents 2-1 in the Supercup final on home soil, laying the foundations for the most successful season in the Bavarians' 113-year history. That may be a good omen for Pep Guardiola as he takes his seat in the dugout for his first competitive match as head coach. "We've worked very hard so far and we're looking forward to the match," the Spaniard commented, "we'll be well prepared and we intend to play well."

However, Guardiola is without two of his star players for the Dortmund clash. Keeper Manuel Neuer and winger Franck Ribéry picked up minor knocks in the midweek Uli Hoeneß Cup victory over Barcelona and will not make the trip to the west of Germany. Mario Götze and Holger Badstuber remain on the long-term injury list, but Bastian Schweinsteiger is hoping to follow up his brief appearance against Barcelona with at least a little more match practice.

Bayern in impressive form

The treble winners have run smoothly into form during the course of the pre-season period, with nine wins in nine warm-up matches, 61 goals scored and just three conceded. "I'm satisfied so far, but we still need a little more time," commented Guardiola. BVB sporting director Michael Zorc, reflecting on FCB's 4-0 victory over Hamburg and 5-1 rout of Borussia Mönchengladbach at last weekend's Telekom Cup, said it was all "very impressive."

However, last season's Bundesliga and Champions League runners-up were never likely to be overawed. "We want the first trophy of the season and we're looking forward to a terrific match," continued Zorc. Former Munich man Mats Hummels is clearly fired up for the game: "It's a chance to beat Bayern Munich on our home ground. Bayern are one of the top three teams in the world, potentially even the best. If we win, it could be a sign we're set for a successful season."

BVB below full strength

Just like Bayern, Borussia are without key individuals. Star signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan (ligaments) and Lukas Piszcek (recovering from surgery) are definitely sidelined, with question-marks over second new arrival Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Poland international Jakub Blaszczykowski. "But we won't be sending out a B-team," Zorc declared.

It must be one of those rush challenges that F****n b*****d of Mascherano did. He made two on Lahm & one on Ribery
