FCB round off training camp with 4-2 win

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Jul 09, 2011 7:00 pm

Bayern have brought down the curtain on their Trentino summer training camp with a second victory in the second friendly match of the week. Jupp Heynckes' men beat the Qatar national team 4-2 in Arco early on Saturday evening, and will now return to Munich from picturesque Riva del Garda in a thoroughly satisfied frame of mind.

A crowd of around 4,000 braved scorching temperatures of over 35 degrees Celsius to watch Daniel van Buyten (7th minute), Thomas Müller (34), Nils Petersen (57) and Ivica Olic (83) score the goals for the Bundesliga giants, with Andres Sebastian Quintana (67) and Muhammed Razark (85) replying for Qatar.

Three days after a 15-0 victory in a relaxed friendly meeting with a Trentino Regional XI, Heynckes made three changes to his starting line-up. Bastian Schweinsteiger was rested with a minor injury, with Anatoliy Tymoshchuk and David Alaba also beginning the match on the bench. The trio were replaced by Luiz Gustavo, Franck Ribéry and Thomas Müller.

Just as in the midweek meeting with the local amateurs, the encounter with the 2022 World Cup hosts featured one-way traffic from the off. The first chance fell to Arjen Robben after just 90 seconds, but the Dutch ace was denied by keeper Qasem Abdullhamed Burhan, who would end up far and away his team's best player in the first half.

Chances galore for FCB

However, Burhan was picking the ball from the back of his net after seven minutes, Van Buyten forcing the ball home from close range to open the scoring. Bayern remained comfortably in control after that, but failed to capitalise fully on their dominance.

Gustavo (18) and Ribéry (20) saw long-range efforts held by Burhan, who pulled out two excellent saves to deny Robben (28, 31), and then rode his luck when Van Buyten shot wide from just six yards. Müller showed how it should be done on 34 minutes, accepting the chance created by Van Buyten's flick-on from a Ribéry free-kick to bundle home at the far post.

Seven changes at the break

As for Manuel Neuer, the new keeper was a virtual spectator during the first period and was not called on to make a single serious save. Heynckes made seven changes at half-time, but even that did not alter the pattern of the match, as the FCB subs slotted seamlessly into the re-jigged side.

After 57 minutes, summer signing Nils Petersen made it 3-0 with a header from Ribéry's cross, but the France star and 60th-minute sub Ivica Olic missed opportunities to add to the lead. Quintana clinically converted Qatar's first real chance of the afternoon to pull one back on 67 minutes, beating Jörg Butt with a well-struck shot from 20 yards.

FCB might have scored more often in the closing stages, but Tymoshchuk (77) and Olic (80) missed the best of the chances. Olic finally added his name to the scoresheet seven minutes from the end with a drilled effort from 16 yards, before Razark netted a neat 20-yard lob to round off the scoring five minutes from time.
