FCB Legends thrill in Brazil

Postby FCBayernNews » Mon Dec 16, 2019 5:55 pm

The fans were already waiting at São Paulo airport early on Sunday morning. "Klose – my idol" read one young fan's placard, and as the FCB Legend walked off after collecting history luggage, the autograph hunters immediately swarmed him.

Brazil bears no grudges

"It's the first time I've been in Brazil since the 2014 World Cup – perhaps I might not have been allowed in before," joked Miroslav Klose, who caused Brazil double pain five years ago. His goal in Germany's 7-1 win saw him seize Ronaldo's crown of top goalscorer in World Cup history. But the reception at the airport made it clear that Brazil bears no grudges. The fans respect Klose's achievement and that of the German team, particularly after the sportsmanlike way the Germans conducted themselves following the crushing semi-final victory.

How the FCB Legends arrived at the FC São Paulo stadium for the 'HYLO Legends-Tour Brasil19'.

35,000 fans at Estadio Morumbi

Klose joined up with the rest of the Bayern Legends after taking charge of the U17 side in their 2-1 win over Hoffenheim on Saturday. "The lads were really good," he reported. "That's exactly what I want." That made the jetlag easier to overcome – Klose was ready for 'HYLO Legends-Tour Brasil19' at the Estadio Morumbi that afternoon in front of around 35,000 spectators.

FCB vs. FC São Paulo

Sadly, our legends lost out 2-0 to hosts FC São Paulo in their opening game, in a contest that got heated at times and in which neither team gave an inch.

Ivica Olić comes away with the ball following a challenge. Olić wore the FCB jersey from 2009 to 2012.

FCB vs. Borussia Dortmund

In the third-placed match, the Legends came up against Borussia Dortmund, who had lost 2-0 to Barcelona in their previous game. Injury-hit Bayern showed what they were made of over the course of the match, coming from 3-0 down at half-time to reduce the deficit to just one through goals from Zvjezdan Misimovic and Ivica Olić. Bayern pushed for the equaliser but Borussia held on for victory, with the crowd applauding a great fight at the end.

Trip a success despite result

Although the FCB Legends didn't claim the title, the trip to Brazil was nevertheless a success. Four World Cup winners – Klaus Augenthaler, Hans Pflügler, Paulo Sergio and Lucio – hosted a training session for disadvantaged children, while the former Bayern stars also ensured a great atmosphere at a watch party with 200 fans and represented the club at a Paulaner event. One thing's for sure now: if the FC Bayern stars come to South America again, the fans will be waiting for legends like Miroslav Klose.
