FCB Experience to capture the magic moments

Postby FCBayernNews » Thu Feb 09, 2012 2:26 pm

Since June last year, the 3000 m² space on the third floor of the Allianz Arena has been alive with the sounds of construction, and the temporary colour scheme is mainly grey, black and white, but in just over three months it will be a blaze of red, with trophies glittering in their cabinets. By mid-May, the builders and architects will be gone, and fans will flock to the Bayern Experience, planned to be the world's finest exploration of a football club's history and achievements.

The objective of the exhibition is "to feel FC Bayern," project manager Sabine Hoeneß told, although the Bayern experience will be vastly different from a conventional museum. "Anyone can put trophies, shirts and boots on display, but what makes Bayern so special are the fascinating stories interwoven with the club. Successes, failures, big and small stories, anecdotes: the FCB Experience will bring these stories back to life. We're trying to create an experience for fans way above and beyond simply looking into a glass cabinet. The fan should be part of the whole thing."

The stories of Germany's most successful club will come alive thanks to multiple video and audio exhibits. "Fans will be immersed in the history of Bayern," commented Fabian Raabe, "we're working on creating truly magic moments." Raabe is a member of the project team headed by content director Hans-Peter Renner which has been developing the concept over the last few months, and collecting countless exhibits. The archive now comprises some 5,000 potential display items, of which around 500 will be on show at any given time. Displays will be regularly refreshed, with illustration provided by some 10,000 images.

Naturally, visitors will marvel at all the trophies the club has ever won, although that is just the tip of the iceberg. The collection includes match-worn shirts, such as the jersey worn by Franz Beckenbauer when Bayern were first promoted to the Bundesliga, match balls, like the one which Franz 'Bulle' Roth netted to earn FCB their first European trophy in 1967, football boots, goalkeeper gloves, pennants, medals, pins and badges, individual trophies, Sepp Maier's Federal Cross of Merit, and so much more besides.

"Many, many people were prepared to share things with us which they may have had in their possession for 20 or 30 years, and which we never knew still existed," Hoeneß revealed. Clubs, former players and a host of fans have made souvenir items available to the FCB Experience team. "Even now, we're still receiving new items. We look forward to the post every day," said Raabe, "but there are still many treasures hidden away in Bayern fans' homes."

Rummenigge's eager anticipation

Exhibits, pictures, historical documents, texts, letters and AV material will bring the Bayern story to life. Visitors will be transported on a journey through time from the founding of the club in February 1900 through to the present, using the latest technology in a Time Tunnel and so-called 'Time Berths'. The Hall of Fame honours the greatest Bayern players of all time, with further highlights in areas dedicated to every player who has ever represented the club, the current team, and the fan culture. Over and over again, visitors will interact with the club and its history.

The grand opening will be part of the programme for the Champions League final on 19 May, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge announced at last November's AGM. The chairman is eagerly looking forward to the finished FCB Experience: "It'll tell a fantastic story."
