FC Bayern face masks – Proceeds going to ‘WeKickCorona’

Postby FCBayernNews » Fri Apr 24, 2020 11:15 am

FC Bayern fans can now get their hands on some very special face masks. Each one has been designed as a unique item in a campaign that has sustainability in mind. All the proceeds from the sales will go to ‘WeKickCorona’, an initiative set up by FCB players Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, with donations helping social and charitable organisations from all areas of society during the coronavirus pandemic.

“We want to demonstrate with this campaign that FC Bayern is doing everything possible to deal with the pandemic in an exemplary and disciplined way, following the appeal by Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder,” said CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “Meanwhile, we’re pleased that we can make a contribution to the marvellous initiative by Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka. This is a great example of how our players recognise their functions as role models in society and are showing solidarity in this crisis.”

The masks have been made out of scarves by a Bavarian company. The scarves were originally supposed to be given out at the Allianz Arena for the Champions League match against Chelsea to mark the club’s 120th anniversary. It means that no two masks – which are for both children and adults – are the same.

“It’s a central concern for us to make a positive contribution during the current COVID-19 crisis,” explained Jörg Wacker, the Bayern board member responsible for internationalisation, strategy and merchandising. “In the spirit of sustainability, the material for the FC Bayern scarves will be reused for a good cause. With the production of our masks, we also want to reduce the rush on medical products.”

Kimmich and Goretzka are delighted about the cooperation between their club and ‘WeKickCorona’: “With this campaign, Leon and I want to deliver quick and direct help where it’s most needed,” said Kimmich. “We hoped as many people as possible would participate and join in, so we’re even happier that we’ve had so much support. It’s very nice that the club is supporting us – and now we hope that a good amount for a good cause will come out of it.” Goretzka also approved of the sustainability element: “The masks actually look very cool, and the fact there’s an environmental consideration behind the whole thing with the sewn-on fan scarves just rounds it off.”

The makeshift textile masks are washable at a minimum of 60 degrees and can be used multiple times. The German federal government recommends the wearing of masks in public, with some states already making it a requirement. Although wearing these masks does not provide medical protection against the transmission of COVID-19, it has been proven to reduce the speed of the respiratory flow and reduce droplet emission.

The masks are available in individual or triple packs. Children’s masks are €5.95 individually or €14.95 for a pack of three, while adult masks are €6.95 individually or €17.95 for a pack of three. The entire proceeds will go towards ‘WeKickCorona’. The masks are available immediately online from the FC BAYERN STORE.
