Countdown to the Champions League final

Postby FCBayernNews » Fri May 24, 2013 12:40 pm

It's the game Bayern fans all over the world have been looking forward to for weeks: FCB contest their third Champions League final in the last four years, in the first ever all-German clash against Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund on Saturday at Wembley. fcbayern.de keeps you informed of the latest developments in the build-up, with regular updates across the last 36 hours before kick-off.

Friday 24 May, morning report

The schedule: Today's customary pre-match press conferences start at around 4.30 pm CET, or 3.30 pm local time. Coach Heynckes, and senior players Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thomas Müller are slated to appear in front of a huge gathering of reporters and TV crews. The final pre-match training session at Wembley is at 6.30 pm CET. Here's the events of the day so far:

1 pm: It's not a very pleasant day in London, as the weather is 'typically British': the skies are grey, the rain is falling and it's unseasonably chilly. However, 300 fans are waiting at the airport to greet the Bayern stars.

12.45 pm: The flight from Munich was uneventful although a little bumpy on the way down. However, Jupp Heynckes and his men are now safely on the tarmac in the British capital.

10.45 am: As always, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge made a statement at the airport prior to check-in. "I'm not relaxed, but I'm not nervous either," the chairman said, "I have complete faith in the coach and in the team." Rummenigge played down Bayern's role as favourites: "We're not going to Wembley full of arrogance, bravado and overconfidence. We know we'll need a very good day if we're to achieve our target of bringing the Champions League trophy back to Munich."

10.30 am: The team bus arrived at Munich airport at around 10.15 am, where it was greeted by a huge throng of fans and reporters in unusually busy scenes prior to takeoff. The team plane will carry a total of around 60 passengers, but on this occasion it will be followed by two further aircraft bearing a total of 460 passengers, including partners, sponsors, media representatives and FCB staff members.
