Coach: The lads deserve praise today

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat Mar 14, 2009 10:45 pm

A 3-0 win, second place in the standings and the gap to Hertha BSC Berlin at the top held to four points were all good reasons for satisfaction in the Bayern camp after Saturday's trip to Bochum. "That was a first-class performance today," enthused FCB head coach Jürgen Klinsmann. "We've played well against Hannover, Sporting and again today. It's an impressive comeback," Karl-Heinz Rummenigge added.

Reaction to VfL Bochum v Bayern:

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: "Bochum set out their stall in the first half, and concentrated on closing down the space, but they were forced to give up those tactics after Zé Roberto put us ahead. The game was basically over at 2-0. It's been a very good week for us. We've played well against Hannover, Sporting and again today. It's an impressive comeback."

Jürgen Klinsmann: "That was a first-class performance today, very focused and very commanding. The team concentrated throughout. We wanted to keep the ball moving at speed. We took a little while to get going, but it steadily improved after that. It was certainly impressive by the end and the lads deserve praise for that. We know Hertha have won and the gap has remained the same, but we'll continue to apply pressure at the top."

Philipp Lahm: "It was an emphatic victory today. We took control of the match after going a goal up, and it got even easier against ten men. We retained possession better, and our passing was better. That's how you stop your opponents creating chances."

Marcel Koller (VfL coach): "We had the first clear-cut chance of the match through Dabrowski, but we failed to take it. Then Bayern took their first chance and with it the lead. That's the difference. After the red card for Pfertzel, Bayern increased their dominance and it became very tough for us."

Daniel Imhof (VfL player): "Bayern were in a different class to us today. We were only a goal down at half-time, but it was over after the sending off. No-one expected us to beat Bayern. We just need to put it behind us and move on. Our next game is against Gladbach, and our place in the top flight is at stake. We have to get a result there."
