Bayern's record run of wins against Werder

Postby FCBayernNews » Thu Apr 18, 2019 1:50 pm

It's a unique run. Since January 2011, FC Bayern and Werder Bremen have met 18 times in competitive matches, and 18 times the German record champions have come away victorious. There’s no other comparable run since the inception of the Bundesliga. The last time the Reds failed to take all three points against the North-German side was a 0-0 draw in September 2010. has put together more interesting facts and figures about Matchday 30's North-South clash for you.

In total, FCB have played against the Green & Whites 105 times in the Bundesliga - more than against any other team in the top tier. Even though the Bavarians have suffered the most league defeats in the club's history against Werder, the overall balance still speaks clearly in favour of the record champions. 26 defeats are matched with 54 wins and 25 draws, with a goal difference of 210:123. In the last seven Bundesliga home games against the Northwest club, the Reds have always scored at least four goals and won those seven games with a goal difference of 36:6.

However, this time round the omens are not quite so clear-cut: thanks to an impressive run of results since the start of the year, Bremen have climbed a few places in the table and are the only Bundesliga outfit still undefeated in 2019. This puts Werder in fourth place in the table for this calendar year - but still seven points behind Bayern. Niko Kovac's men lead the way with 31 points from their last 12 Bundesliga matches.

Eight wins with a goal difference of 29:2 is the record champions' impressive tally from their last eight Bundesliga matches at the Allianz Arena. The Bavarians have kept a total of six clean sheets at home in that time and it's 425 minutes since they last conceded on home soil in the league.

Bayern vs Werder is also a meeting of Robert Lewandowski and Claudio Pizarro, the best non-German goalscorers in the history of German football's top tier. The Pole netted Bundesliga goals 200 and 201 in his last home match against Borussia Dortmund, further extending his lead over former Bayern player Pizarro. The Peruvian last hit the target in Bremen's 1-1 draw with Hertha Berlin in mid-February, becoming the oldest scorer in the history of the Bundesliga with his 195th goal at the proud age of 40 years and 136 days.

Thomas Müller will come up against his favourite opponents in the Bundesliga. In 18 encounters with Werder in the top tier, the 29-year-old forward has never lost, taking all three points 16 times and drawing twice. In addition to providing 13 assists, the born-and-bred Bavarian has also netted nine times himself. Hannover 96 and VfL Wolfsburg are the only other Bundesliga sides he's scored against as frequently.
