Bayern's 6-2 victory over Salzburg in numbers

Postby FCBayernNews » Wed Nov 04, 2020 1:40 am

A 90-minute rollercoaster, eight goals and a number of best marks for FC Bayern: the treble winners' 6-2 victory away to Red Bull Salzburg yielded a number of interesting facts. fcbayern.com has delved into the stats.

Bayern not to be stopped

Bayern extended their Champions League record to 14 straight wins when they beat Salzburg 6-2. Hansi Flick oversaw 11 of these as head coach, setting a new record in Europe's elite club competition.

Early shock

Bayern trailed for the first time under Flick in the Champions League when Mergim Berisha scored the opener. The last time they trailed was in the 3-2 victory over Olympiacos under Niko Kovač in October 2019, and again, Bayern left the pitch as winners.

Milestone for Kimmich

Joshua Kimmich made his 50th European appearance on Tuesday (49 in the Champions League, one in the UEFA Super Cup). He has scored ten goals on the European stage so far. Bayern's number is on fire in Europe's premier club competition. He has been involved in nine goals in his last six matches, scoring two and setting up seven goals. He shone with two assists away to Salzburg alone.

Lewandowski's ruthless streak from the spot

Robert Lewandowski netted from 12 yards once again, this time after 20 minutes to equalise after Salzburg had taken an early lead. This strike means that Lewy has scored all of his last 13 spot-kicks. In the Champions League too, the Pole has stepped up to take a penalty 12 times, maintaining a 100% success record. In the second half, the 32-year-old striker added to his tally to make it 5-2, scoring 11 goals in his last six competitive matches.

Debut goals for Hernández and Boateng

In Jérôme Boateng and Lucas Hernández, two rarely-prolific Munich players entered the scoring books. Boateng scored his first ever away goal for FC Bayern to make it 3-2, his first goal in 1,011 days (his last goal was on 27 January 2018, when FCB beat Hoffenheim 5-2). Hernández scored his first goal for Bayern in his 34th competitive game, rounding the score off to make it 6-2.

FCB making their own luck

In the goal to make it 2-1 to Bayern, the Munich team benefited from an own goal for the fourth time in 2020 - just as often as they had done in the previous year. The last time they profited from so many was in 2013 (when Bayern were the beneficiaries of five own goals).

Resolute Reds down battling Salzburg: the match report.
