Bayern v Porto in quarter-finals

Postby FCBayernNews » Fri Mar 20, 2015 12:20 pm

Bayern have been handed a challenging but attractive tie in the Champions League quarter-finals, as the five-time winners of Europe’s top club competition were paired with Portuguese giants FC Porto in the draw for the last eight. In a welcome bonus, FCB will play the first leg in the north-west of Portugal with the return in Munich a week later.

The draw ceremony was held at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland from midday CET on Friday and was conducted by UEFA General Secretary Gianni Infantino, UEFA director of competitions Giorgio Marchetti, and former Dortmund star Karl-Heinz Riedle.

The eight-team line-up, comprising six of the group winners from the first stage of the competition and two of the runners-up, included three teams from Spain, two from France and one each from Germany, Italy and Portugal, with the English Premier League failing to muster a single representative for the second time in three seasons.

Five of last season’s quarter-finalists are back again this season – Bayern, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. Of the other three, Juventus last featured at the last-eight stage in 2012/13, Porto in 2008/09 and AS Monaco back in 2003/04.

Bayern play the first leg of the last eight tie away from home at Estádio do Dragão, with the decisive second leg at the Allianz Arena. The first leg will be played on 14 or 15 April, with the return in Munich just a week later on 21 or 22 April. This year’s final takes place at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on 6 June.
