Bayern turn focus to Dortmund showdown

Postby FCBayernNews » Tue May 08, 2012 6:00 pm

With the exception of Luiz Gustavo, none of the stars dropped by the Säbener Strasse on Monday, but it was a different story on Tuesday as some 2,000 fans watched the squad work out with plenty of energy and commitment, and bonhomie too. It's obvious the stars are fired up for Saturday's DFB Cup final against Dortmund. "A final like this is always fantastic," Philipp Lahm told FCB.tv.

Boss Jupp Heynckes called his players out onto the sun-drenched practice ground at around 10 am. Gustavo, who was sidelined for Saturday's trip to Cologne with a knee injury, rejoined his team-mates for the 90-minute training session, in which Heynckes pushed his men to the limit, and found them willingly playing their part.

In the end-of-session practice match, no man bottled his tackles and the winning team celebrated joyously. The fans were offered real value for coming along, especially as the stars patiently signed autographs and posed for snaps afterwards. It was the last public training session ahead of this Saturday's cup final.

"It's always terrific when you train in front of so many spectators. They really cheer us on, and it's a good feeling," David Alaba told fcbayern.de. As of Wednesday, Heynckes will take his men behind closed doors and begin fine tuning for the showdown in Berlin. "It's a huge chance to win a trophy and we want to take it," Lahm declared.

Captain: we're in good form

Saturday's clash is between "the two best teams in Germany," the captain continued, "little things will make the difference, and we want them to go our way at the weekend." That was a sentiment echoed by fellow Germany international Toni Kroos: "Naturally, Dortmund are quality, but we're in good form and we've been on a roll since the matches against Real Madrid. I'm looking forward to Saturday!"
