Bayern set new Bundesliga record

Postby FCBayernNews » Sat May 30, 2020 10:05 pm

Five passes, two back-heels and an unmarked target man: Bayern's sumptuous third goal in Saturday's 5-0 victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf stood for Bayern's energy. Hansi Flick's men shine with fine interplay and, more importantly: goals galore.

On a plate for Robert Lewandowski: The Pole was beautifully played in by his teammates for the third goal of the game.

New record for Bayern

After the romp against the men from the Rhine, the side from Munich have scored an incredible 86 goals after 29 games; a new record in the Bundesliga's 57-year history. Under Flick the champion's attacking prowess has gone up a gear. In 19 league matches, the 55-year-old coach has celebrated 61 Bayern goals, more than any other Bundesliga coach has overseen in such a short time.

For Flick himself, however, this is not as important. He is focused on more crucial things: "Statistics and records don't interest me at the moment. All I care about is concluding a successful season. At FC Bayern you have to be champions, and we have that objective," the coach said after the game.

Incidentally, the fact that it was Bayern's designated goalscorer, Robert Lewandowski, who finished a magnificent move in the 43rd minute to make it 3-0 came as no surprise to anyone - even if the Pole had to wait quite a long time for the goal by his standards. This was his first goal in his sixth appearance against Düsseldorf, a stat which means the 31-year-old has now scored against all 18 current Bundesliga clubs.

Shortly after the break, Lewandowski showed he had tasted blood and scored a second goal to make it four. It was the 43rd goal in all competitions this season for the exceptional striker, a mark that has matched his personal record in professional football: he also scored 43 goals in the 2016/17 season.
