Bayern expecting 'thrilling game' against Hoffenheim

Postby FCBayernNews » Fri Jan 26, 2018 4:35 pm

Bayern have only suffered two defeats in the Bundesliga this season, one of which was on Matchday 3 at 1899 Hoffenheim. The rematch between the two sides takes place on Saturday at the Allianz Arena (live on Ticker and Webradio from 15:30 CET), giving the record champions the opportunity to avenge that defeat and consolidate their lead at the top of the table.

“We have a score to settle against TSG after two successive defeats,” declared Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. As well as the 2-0 reverse in September, the Reds were also winless in their two encounters with Hoffenheim last season (a 1-0 loss and 1-1 draw).

The current form book is clearly in the home side’s favour, though. While ninth-placed Hoffenheim have collected just one point from their last three games, Bayern have won each of their last six. “We want to keep going the way we have,” said coach Jupp Heynckes on Friday. “We’ve prepared well this week and I’m confident we’ll put in a good performance.”

Süle wary of Hoffenheim

However, Heynckes also warned that the match cannot be seen as a foregone conclusion. “Hoffenheim have achieved a lot over the last two years,” praised the experienced coach. “They have a very good concept and a very good plan for how they want to play,” said Heynckes, who’s expecting “a thrilling game” at the sold-out Arena.

Niklas Süle also knows from experience what the hosts can expect. “Hoffenheim will demand everything of us and get forward, so we need to be prepared for that.” Heynckes did not reveal whether Süle along with Sebastian Rudy and Sandro Wagner will play against their former club. “It’s of no importance to me what club a player has come from. For Bayern all that matters is winning games. I blank out everything else.”

No Hummels or Martínez

Heynckes will be without Javi Martínez and Mats Hummels as well as long-term absentees Manuel Neuer and Thiago. Martínez is still recovering from the effects of a stomach bug. “He’s only been able to do limited training this week. As he’s not yet 100 percent, he won’t be involved,” explained Heynckes. Hummels, meanwhile, still needs “a week of intensive training” after his fitness problems during the winter break.

In contrast, Hoffenheim head coach Julian Nagelsmann has a full squad at his disposal. “It looks good for Saturday’s game. The whole squad has trained,” said the confident 42 year-old. “We have three positive results against Bayern behind us and I think we can get a fourth. It’s not about damage limitation for us. We’re going to Munich with a plan to win.”

Hummels still not available. I think he should now comeback against Paderborn at the earliest.

Twelve, actually  Nagelsmann is 30, not 42.

42 is actually meaningful. And no, not as "the answer to life, the Universe and everything" but it's the difference in age between Heynckes and Nagelsmann.
