Bayern-dominated Germany beat Brazil 3-2

Postby FCBayernNews » Thu Aug 11, 2011 7:50 am

Manuel Neuer, Holger Badstuber, Philipp Lahm, Toni Kroos, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Müller and Mario Gomez all started a match on Wednesday evening - not for Bayern, but for Germany. FCB's seven men in the starting line-up against Brazil in Stuttgart was a new record, and the Bayern contingent played a vital part in the home side's 3-2 victory over the men in canary yellow. It was the Germans' fist win over the South Americans in 18 years, and only their fourth in 21 meetings altogether.

The Germans dominated from the start but had to wait until the 61st minute before Schweinsteiger opened the scoring from the spot. Dortmund shooting star Mario Götze doubled the advantage six minute later, before Robinho reduced the arrears with another penalty. Sub André Schürrle soon made it 3-1, and Neymar's stoppage-time effort for Brazil made no difference to the outcome.

First cap for Gustavo

"That was a meeting between two top teams, and we played very well," Schweinsteiger commented. Captain Lahm was pleased by "a very, very high-paced match. The spectators have seen a good game."

Bayern also had Jerome Boateng on the bench, although the player spent most of the match in the dugout before coming on for a token appearance just before the end. The same applied to Luiz Gustavo for Brazil, making his debut in the five-time world champions' squad, and earning a maiden Selecao cap after being sent on with four minutes to play.

Rock-solid Neuer

The Germans started much the brighter of the teams, Götze creating the first chance of the night on six minutes, only to see his shot brilliantly turned aside by Brazil keeper Julio Cesar. In a very good team display after that, Kroos pulled the strings for a long spell, although three long-range efforts sailed wide of the target.

The visitors threatened sporadically on the break, but Robinho (17) und Barca star Dani Alves (33) were easily kept out by Neuer, before hot property Neymar from FC Santos arrowed a 45th-minute drive just wide.

Schweini, Schürrle and Götze on target

The high-quality game deserved goals, and it got them after the hour. First, former FCB man Lucio tripped Kroos in the box, Schweinsteiger stepping up and clinically converting the spot-kick. Six minutes later, Götze doubled the advantage with a good finish from another Kroos assist, this time a defence-splitting pass into the danger zone.

Robinho gave Brazil a glimmer of hope with another penalty 20 minutes from time, but Leverkusen's Schürrle fired into the corner to restore the two-goal cushion with ten minutes left. The goal had a Bayern component too, as Schweinsteiger wrestled back possession in the penalty area and squared for Schürrle to score.

I think we should really try a Kroos-Schweini combo against weaker teams. They provide a lot more when going forward, and in Boateng we finally have a competent defender behind the midfield. All three goals against Brazil were created by those two.
The ideal team

--------Müller with gloves--------
-Müller--Müller--Müller--Müller--
-------Müller---------Müller-------
----Müller----Müller----Müller----
---------------Müller---------------
