Bayern dominate with attacking power and team spirit

Postby FCBayernNews » Sun Jan 26, 2020 1:25 pm

FC Bayern's attacking unit hit the ground running in 2020. The Bavarians showed their potential in the second half against Hertha Berlin, and they were rampant in the 5-0 gala against Schalke, dominating throughout. "It was an outstanding match. It was really fun to watch, it was really good football. The way we're playing is impressive," said sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić.

The reaction to FC Bayern's gala display

Bayern's attack has stood out so far this term. The German record champions have netted in each of their 19 Bundesliga matches, scoring a total of 55 goals. Bayern boast the most prolific Bundesliga attack since 34 years. The last time a team achieved a similar number was in 1985/86, when Werder Bremen had scored 57 goals after Matchday 19.

Bayern fired a total of 14 shots on target on Saturday, equalling a club record. The victory would have been higher had it not been for a number of strong saves by Markus Schubert.

Robert Lewandowski handed Bayern an early lead against Schalke, scoring his 21st goal this season.

Robert Lewandowski leads the line. The Poland captain scored on Saturday, topping the scorer rankings on 21 goals. Five different players scored the sumptuous goals against Schalke. "We created very beautiful goals," said Hansi Flick. Munich played with verve and always had an eye for their team-mates. Bayern's fourth goal was the best example. Lewandowski could have tried his luck but saw that Thiago was in a better position and invited the Spaniard to tap in. "I like this team spirit," the Bayern coach commented.

Compactness as the foundation

All that would not be possible without compactness. "We allowed them hardly any air to breathe, we played with very high intensity," Flick analysed. Schalke never really relieved the pressure. "We're playing as a unit, everyone takes part, the forwards too," said Manuel Neuer. Thomas Müller added: "Our work when not in possession marks us out."

Historic start

Bayern got off to an impressive start to the second half of the season, scoring nine goals and conceding none, equalling a record. Only VfB Stuttgart achieved the same feat in 1990/91. The perfect start is a good omen. Since the introduction of three points for a win, FC Bayern have won the championship title in all nine campaigns when they won their first two matches of the second half. "We have the quality to win the title," commented Flick.
