Bastian and Toni pull out of Germany squad

Postby FCBayernNews » Sun Nov 11, 2012 8:00 pm

The programme for the day after a Bundesliga fixture sees the stars who were involved in the match complete a regeneration programme, with the rest of the squad out on the practice ground supervised by Jupp Heynckes. So it was on Sunday, and as always, crowds of fans thronged the Säbener Strasse training facility, ignoring the unpleasant autumn chill in the quest for a close-up glimpse of their heroes.

The supporters were denied any sight of Bastian Schweinsteiger, as the vice captain has picked up a viral infection. He has withdrawn from the Germany squad to face the Netherlands on Wednesday, as has Toni Kroos, laid low with gastric flu. FCB chief medical officer Dr Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt has already advised Germany boss Joachim Löw of the situation regarding the midfield pair.

Müller to report despite a cold

Jerome Boateng is also out of the friendly international after rupturing a groin muscle in Saturday's meeting with Eintracht Frankfurt, as Heynckes reported on Sunday: "He'll certainly be out for two or three weeks." Claudio Pizarro will also remain in Munich after Peru agreed not to call him up for a friendly against Honduras. By contrast, Thomas Müller will join up with his national team-mates despite suffering from a cold, and is thus one of 11 Bayern men leaving for international duty on Monday.

Sunday brought good news of Holger Badstuber. With Boateng facing a lay-off, it was a major plus that Daniel van Buyten returned to the fray against Frankfurt, and fellow defender Badstuber is also rapidly recovering fitness. The Germany international pulled a hamstring muscle in the home meeting with Leverkusen two weeks ago.

Holger poised to resume team programme

Badstuber resumed running and jogging a a few days ago and repeated his programme on Sunday. "Holger has sports rehab training until the middle of the week. I hope he'll be back with the squad on Wednesday or Thursday," Heynckes reported. However, Bayern's friendly against FC Falke Markt Schwaben at 6 pm on Tuesday comes too early for the centre half.

Sunday was also club captain Philipp Lahm's 29th birthday. "We got together for a team breakfast," Heynckes revealed, but Lahm will not be celebrating in the evening, the coach advised: "A party would be inappropriate. Philipp has to join up with the national team in Amsterdam on Monday."

Germany face the Dutch and Arjen Robben on Wednesday, before Bayern travel the short distance to Nürnberg next Saturday, without Boateng but possibly with Badstuber in the squad.
