Austria defend FCB Youth Cup title

Postby FCBayernNews » Wed May 18, 2016 1:30 pm

On Sunday Austria won the grand final of the FC Bayern Youth Cup at the Allianz Arena and hoisted the trophy into the Munich sky, just like in 2015. Germany finished runners-up in the top-notch tournament.

Junior talents from seven countries visited Bavaria to take part in the grand final this weekend. The teams, which were selected over a period of several months in qualifying tournaments, travelled to the Bavarian capital on Wednesday and Thursday for a training camp.

Besides the training sessions the youngsters enjoyed a diverse supporting programme at the Säbener Strasse, including an intercultural evening, a guided tour of Munich and a visit to the Allianz Arena for FC Bayern's home match against Hannover. The highlight was a meet and greet with Arjen Robben. Sunday saw the grand final of the fifth FC Bayern Youth Cup.

Bayern XI take part for the first time

FCB ambassador and Youth Cup patron Paul Breitner as well as Sebastian Dremmler have scouted the youngsters over the last five months and were very impressed with the grand final. “I'm particularly pleased that we’ve again raised the quality of the tournament. Congratulations to Team Austria, they won deservedly,” commented Breitner.

The Austrians turned in strong displays and defended their title. The teams from Germany and Thailand took the remaining podium slots, followed by Japan, USA, India and China. An FC Bayern junior team took part for the first time, albeit not competing to win the tournament. Ali Sahintürk from Team Austria was named best player of the tournament, Pisansab Suthipong from Thailand was the best goalkeeper.

FC Bayern congratulates Team Austria on defending the title and thanks the Bundesliga and club partners adidas, Audi, Yingli Solar, HypoVereinsbank, Bank Austria and Wangkanai for their support.
