'A wonderful moment!' Vidal defends Copa

Postby FCBayernNews » Mon Jun 27, 2016 10:30 am

Chile with Warrior Arturo Vidal have won the Copa America Centenario! Juan Antonio Pizzi's troops beat Argentina 4-2 on penalties on Monday morning (CET), defending the South American championship title. Vidal missed the first penalty after 120 goalless minutes, but had reason to celebrate as Lionel Messi, who retired from the national team after the match, and Lucas Biglia failed to convert their spot kicks.

“It's a wonderful moment. All our work, all our commitment have been rewarded,” commented Vidal, brimming with joy after the exhausting battle. Both sides went a man down in the first half as Vidal's team-mate Marcelo Diaz was dismissed for a second bookable offence on the half-hour before Argentina's Marcos Rojo saw a red card for a crude foul on Vidal shortly before the break. Despite a number of gilt-edged chances the 82,026 crowd in New Jersey only saw goals in the shootout, with Chile showing the stronger nerves. Congratulations, Arturo!
