7 facts about the Paderborn clash

Postby FCBayernNews » Thu Feb 20, 2020 3:30 pm

On Matchday 23 Bayern welcome basement boys SC Paderborn. Here are seven interesting facts and figures to help you get ready for the Bundesliga clash.

1. Anniversary at the Allianz Arena

This Friday is an anniversary: Bayern will be playing their 250th Bundesliga match at the Allianz Arena, which was opened in 2005. So far, the German record champions have won 78 percent of Bundesliga games played at the stadium, with just 36 draws and 20 defeats. FCB have a favourable goal difference too; 687 scored and just 179 conceded.

In the Bundesliga, Bayern have celebrated 193 victories at the Allianz Arena: one of those a spectacular 5-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt last May, which enabled Bayern to seal the title at home on the last day of the season for the first time in their new home.

2. Bayern unbeaten in the Arena on a Friday

Bayern are particularly strong on Friday nights at the Allianz Arena. Whenever FCB have opened a matchday at the Fröttmaninger Stadium, they've never ended up on the losing side. As well as winning 15 times, Bayern have drawn four times on Friday nights at home in the Bundesliga.

3. Bayern relentless against Paderborn

Bayern have played Paderborn five times in competitive matches, winning every time - and with a goal ratio of 24:3 goals in favour of FCB. In addition to two DFB Cup encounters, Bayern have scored 13 to Paderborn's 2 goals in their three league clashes. Bayern do not have a better record against sides they've played more than three times than they do against SCP.

4. No slip-ups against a side bottom of the table for nearly 12 years

First against last: This last happened for Bayern in May 2019, when Bayern beat Hannover 96 3-1. Before that, the record champions have a superb record against sides bottom of the table and are undefeated in the past 22 matches against teams 18th in the Bundesliga (19 wins, three draws). The last defeat against a bottom club came on 15 March 2008, when Energie Cottbus beat FCB 2-0.

5. Paderborn's second test against the team at the top of the tree

SC Paderborn, on the other hand, will be facing a side currently top of the Bundesliga for only the second time ever: the first time took place on 21 February 2015, when the men from eastern Westphalia suffered their highest Bundesliga defeat to date in a 6-0 loss to Bayern.

Robert Lewandowski scored twice in the 6-0 win in Paderborn. He's scored five times in four matches against the East Westphalians, including his first home goal for FC Bayern:

6. The game being decided early seems inevitable

Bayern proved how clinical they are in front of goal to quickly put last Sunday's game to bed, scoring 3 times in the first 12 minutes to effectively ensure a FCB victory. The game ended in a 4-1 victory over Köln. The chances of something similar happening again are high: Bayern have scored the most goals in the opening quarter of a game of any team in the Bundesliga (12 goals), whilst Paderborn are the most vulnerable in the first 15 minutes (conceding 13).

7. Next milestone for Gnabry
