World Cup 2014 Golden Ball

Postby MUTU » Tue Jul 15, 2014 8:22 am

We know Messi won the Golden Ball, but as many people pointed out (including Maradona), he may have been given the award for "marketing reasons". Who do YOU think deserved to win the World Cup 2014 Golden Ball, and why?

Neuer for me.

After him, Rodriquez and Robben were the most persuasive outfield players.

Then Hummels.

Then a 3-way tie between Messi, Lahm, and Muller

Mueller. The player to score 3 first goals and brilliant performances all around.

Lahm - Silver ball
Neuer - Bronze Ball.

Rodriguez not because he played till QFs only and already got Golden Boot for his goal exploits. Frankly, speaking does not make any sense to give it to a player who didn't play in SF and final.

I'd say James was the best individual this tournament. Robben comes as a close second, but James gets the nod from me for the his goals scored.

Hames, Gold. Robben, Silver. Müller, Bronze.

In truth I'd want a player from the champions to win the Golden Ball in general. But from German NT, there's so many candidates and they've already won the Gold that MATTERS. So fck this award hahahahaha

Think the Golden Ball should belong to a player from one of the two finalists. Messi wasn't Argentina's best overall player - Mascherano was imo.

Butttt.... Like everyone said it's hard to pick a standout individual from the German side... I think Muller is the most consistent, albeit tightly contested between him, Lahm, Hummels, Neuer and Khedira in the *overall* tournament.

That being said - my vote goes to our Wembley hero; no one expect the Dutch team to go this far, his goals against Spain were beauties, and iirc he was the most fouled player in the tournament. He carried this relatively young and inexperienced (or aging depending whom you ask) squad and was a constant inspiration for the team. RvP played great in some matches, but we know who the star of the team was... And who was the real "captain" :) The "admission to diving" marred his otherwise wonderful performances in the WC.

James was amazing too, considering that he wins the Golden Boot even though he got eliminated in the QF.

Basically, anyone but Messi

Muller - 5 goals, 3 assists. Always a threat to opposition.
Robben - Robbenlands.
Messi - For reaching the final, even if we've seen better displays from him in the past, sharing the 3rd place with Mascherano, because Argentina defense > Argentina attack.

James Rodriguez - Best Young Player.

Hames can't technically be get the Young Player award. He's 23. Only for U-21 players I believe.

Don't you think there should be an award for the best debutant in WC? Like Rookie of the Year in basketball.

For me it is unquestionably Robben, and if not him then Rodriguez. For Germany, Neuer was the most deserving.

Hames? If we talk about Alaba, we aren't writing Deivid or something...

Hummels, Badstuber, Alaba
Schöpf, Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Can, Contento
Müller, Wagner

For me that should have gone to Schweini. James was a true leader too. IMO MVP should always go to leaders of a team who carried their team far so even Mess I would be in the list.

Muller started fabulous but didn't continue as such.
