40 years ago today the British left Malta and for all... and all of Malta became finally accessible to the Maltese...
Only to lose it again 25 years later
U l-Kotra qamet f’daqqa – u għajtet: “Jien Maltija!
Miskin min ikasbarni, - miskin min jidħak bija!”
U l-Kotra għanniet f’daqqa – u semmgħet ma’ l-irjieħ
L-Innu ta’ Malta tagħna, – u l-leħen kien rebbieħ,

Have you ever heard this final transmission by the British Forces Broadcasting Services (BFBS) Malta, on Sunday 25 March 1979 before the departure of the British ? It is somewhat emotional marking the end of an era after nearly 200 years.

This first speaker is Rear Admiral O N A Cecil (the last Commander British Forces Malta) that English intonation ! then Richard Astbury (Station Controller) ! followed by the Evening Hymn and Last Post, an instrumental version of L-Innu Malti and a church choir sings God Save The Queen, accompanied by a Church Organ and a Military Band. The studios of BFBS Malta were where there is the Planning Authority, Floriana today.

Yes I did as I was watching a doc on One last Sun...
the presenter said that it gives you goose bumps and I can say that it is true...
