The Songs in your own Native Language.

Postby ramsej84 » Fri May 18, 2018 10:08 am

I am very interested in music and languages and it would be nice if can use this thread to post the best songs in our native tongue.

Maybe we can also write the summary of the song.

It speaks about the hardships farmers endure... work hard and earn little...
It says that he is the last farmer at Ghasel Valley as all had given up and the new generation doesn't want to work the land anymore, and instead are leaving the rural areas to go to live and work in the cities.
It also makes reference to the plague of urbanization...

I like this one a lot. Relaxing especially if I'm mad at something. Rose "gül" synonyms "smile"
Also song based on a poem but I don't have enough English skill to translate it into English.

If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?

You did right but don't use Youtube share links (shortened links) because they usually don't work with forums. Just use the one on the address bar up there.

One in better quality. This one mixes electronic dance music from the US with traditional Pakistani/Punjabi music. I love it. You can turn on the captions for the non-English parts

This is a children's lullaby adapted to an annual Rockestra concert

Lyrics in Maltese;
Lanċa ġejja u oħra sejra, minn Ta' Sliema għall-Marsamxett. Il-kaptan bil-pipa f’ħalqu, jidderieġi l-bastiment; Sewwa sewwa f’nofs ta’ baħar, il-kaptan ħassu ħazin, ma kellux min idur miegħu; daru miegħu l-baħrin, għamillu karta, għamillu karta, għamillu karta għal tax-xjuħ.’

Translation:
A ferry is coming and and another is leaving, from Sliema to Marsamxett (the Sliema side of Valletta). The captain with the pipe in his mouth, directing the vessel. In the middle of the harbour the captain felt sick and had no one to assist him. He was assisted by the sailors. Prepare the papers, prepare the papers, prepare the papers to send him to an elderly home (retire).

So how many of the Maltese users have picked 'Xemx' (Sun) when asked by a foreigner to sing a song from their country? People I know who have been asked that always pick this song first.

Super Bayern! Super Bayern! Hey! Hey!

Il-Kantilena ... this is a 15th cent poem by Pietru (Peter) Caxaru , it is the oldest known poem in Maltese...

It obviously sounds totally different then the today's spoken language...

https://youtu.be/G3N8KfQPlog

The poem itself being read in the medieval dialect ...
(Today's Maltese sounds completely different and most words became archaic)

Well, definetely not my style, but Bulgaria is famous with the classic folklore music. If you guys have never hear something like this you can discover the beauty of this type of music. Even on of the songs in the video - " Izlel je Delyo hajdutin", was sent to space on board the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 probes in 1977.

And one Bulgarian-Greece duet - Elena sings in English. Classic and deep.

Many of the records and the music recorded on this collection say a lot about the local culture, music and musicians of the day. They are important documents
