A new digital life for the lost letters of the Maltese alphabet

Before the standardised alphabet, Maltese looked quite different

I think the next inevitable step will be to formalise ‘c’ and ‘y’ as letters of the Maltese alphabet. With the choice to spell Maltese words with an English origin in the same way they are spelt in English having now been officially declared as possible and correct, we have to face the reality that we do have Maltese words (all loanwords, but still Maltese words) using ‘c’ and ‘y’. Italian has a similar situation though I’m not sure whether they consider them part of the alphabet. If I remember correctly when I first started learning Italian I was taught they are.

I’ll look into it. I remember it being used as a source by many of the contributors in the one I worked on.

Not only the way it is written ... the images the testimonies of those preset... the pieces from the contemporary newspapers (how the Maltese was written) how the contemporary Maltese thought and reasoned, the Maltese boothlickers, how our illegal Colonizers looked down on our ancestors... the latter was disgusting...
But IMO I would hate more the booth lickers and so did the rest of the Maltese, cause it is more painful to be sold by your fellow countrymen...
Reading this book I concluded how docile they were... and I am still surprised how they sided with the Colonizers during the War... we were treated like animals

This is GOLD

I have just picked up the phone, and the guy on the other end asked me for the Boss in a very Maltese tone!
I immediately asked him (in Maltese) for his particulars...
His replied in English that he is from a Spanish Co

Later I learned that he is of an Arab descent!

Imxija, koronut, tiswobbja and vaċċin among 2020’s words

When ‘positive’ became the most negative word of the year

Kemm sabu llum? (How many cases did they find today?): it is three, rather than one word, but it definitely qualifies as the question of the year, and, in tombola-fashion, is usually followed by ‘how many died?’

Kind of ridiculous to add "vempila" and "koronut" there. They're non-words. They exist only in theory. No one has ever seriously used them. He added them because he's the one who came up with them, though. He was also the one who came up with stessu. It's a very big stretch by that article to say the word established itself; it's only really ever used in writing by a few people who don't know any better and have been told it's the Maltese word (even though they never use it) and by a very restricted group of people who tend to be alumni of the Department of Maltese. It's very clear that 99% of the Maltese population uses, when speaking Maltese and completely naturally, selfie. We know the various principles by which words can be invented, and these words follow those principles, but words are generated naturally, not consciously using that awareness. They are, and will remain, dead words... if you can call something that never lived dead.

Rest of the list is good though.
