5 Kelmiet Li Taħsibhom Ingliżi Imma Mhumiex [source]

Għandna grupp ta’ kliem ivvintat, aktarx miż-żgħażagħ, li m’għandux tifsira vera u proprja. Qiegħed hemm biex jirrima ma’ xi espressjoni vulgari.

Dan il-kliem isir bħal kodiċi sigriet għall-klikka li tużah. Ħafna drabi nużawh biex inwaqqgħu għaċ-ċajt lil dak li jkun, speċjalment jekk ma jkunx jagħmel parti mill-grupp, li malli jisma’ l-kelma jistaqsi, “Xi tfisser?”, u talli kien kurjuż, ilaqqat tweġiba umoristika u baxxa (u meta ngħid baxxa, jiġifieri jekk taqrahom, mur qerr). [source]

The Police Commissioner just confirmed that the number of crimes committed by foreigners in Paceville is twice as much as those committed by Maltese nationals...

Food for thought

He said "not twice but close".

However, this lacks perspective. When you make such a statistic, it follows to say how many foreigners frequent Paceville as opposed to Maltese. In Summer, for example, I'd dare say there are much more foreigners than locals. During the day, there's always more foreigners. The statistic he came up with should have been accompanied by such a comparison and it'd have been far more meaningful.

That is, we'd be able to derive a statistic of x crimes per 1000 foreigners in Paceville and y crimes per 1000 locals in Paceville and then compare x to y, but we can't because we only know about the number of crimes.

Did I say there wasn't a problem? Still that statistic is essential to understand the extent of the issue. If on average there are double the foreigners in paceville (which I doubt) then it would not be an issue with foreigners.

You are both right. Paceville is largely dominated by foreigners which obviously means there is a bigger chance of crime by them. But it's also become a dangerous place full of all sorts of illegal activities, mainly by said foreigners (but surely not just). It definitely can't be ignored.

Another major concern is the lack of respect to the authorities, (this is more common with a Maltese Gahan)

Just listen to what teachers have to say and that would be enough. In my school days we used to stand up and greet the teacher or everyone who enters the classroom.

As for the foreigners yes... we have huge huge problems... amongst us we have North african criminals , the Eastern European Romas, and the Serbian thugs and mafia gangs... not to mention the Sicilian mafiosi who can't go unnoticed.

It's not what is right and what isn't.

Such a statistic by the Police Commissioner is being interpreted by the right-wing as "foreigners cause more trouble than Maltese", but to come to that conclusion you need to first see how many foreigners visit Paceville and how many Maltese visit Paceville.

Let me bring a silly example. Let's say the archbishop comes up with a statistic of how many Maltese go to confession and how many foreigners go to confession. Now, we can very safely assume that there would be far more Maltese people going to confession than foreigners in Malta, but should that be interpreted as Maltese people being bigger sinners?

Yes, but we also have a lot of foreigners working in the gaming and finance sectors who are timid and well-educated, much more than the average Maltese person.

The respect for authorities has always been a problem in Malta. The law is very rarely respected.
