#12, the Leopoldina paper has been published (well, at least theoretically, the server has crashed).

From what I gather from the press, primary and secondary schools are to partly re-open; first in the final class of primary schools German and math are to be taught, 15 students max, breaks are to be spread over the day, in secondary schools also the final classes leading to graduations are to be re-opened first, with reduced hours concentrating on German, math and foreign languages. Otherwise online courses are to be used. Students are to wear masks, as well as the general public.

May I ask why they’re reopening already? Seems kind of crazy.

Here the school year has been abandoned completely. I have issues with that concerning students who were supposed to sit for national exams and the way it was handled, but not about the schools not reopening as such. I think it’s the right thing.

Yeah, seen it... I just think it's BS... No student is capable of sticking to general rules of containment... Let alone in elementary schools...

COVID-19 is spreading at a slower rate in Malta than globally, models suggest

Charmaine Gauci says models suggest an R0 of 1.5 compared to 2.2 globally

I don't know if this is positive or otherwise

It means that every person infects 1.5 people on average in Malta whereas globally they infect 2.2. So in Malta, every 2 cases on average infect a further 3. Then these 3 infect another 4 or 5, so you get 9-10 in total (obviously the process keeps going, I am stopping at stage 3). Globally, 2 people in fect 4-5, who then intect about 11, so you get around 18 total by stage 3. It’s positive.

Some positive news, my relatives say Western Australia today recorded 4 new cases and 45 recoveries! Their recoveries have been outpacing new cases every day for a few days now too, so the number of cases is actually decreasing there.

I'd dare say it also means it will take us longer to reach our peak.

But could it be that we still haven't reached the peak so hence to low Rs ?

Not sure but probably when new nr of cases becomes unchanged for a period of time...
Like there will be 30-50 cases for two whole weeks.
According to that particular Site Red Queen and later Chris Fearne ,& Charmaine Gauci referred to we will be reaching it in mid next week.
If we do ... by the end of June we should be starting to get some normality.

Yeah but how is the estimate (mid next week) reached or calculated, and why does a lower rate of infection mean the peak might happen later?
