I just calculated that COVID-19 is more popular in Malta than in China. We have 60.8 cases per 1M population and China has 56.2. It's officially safer to live in China than in Malta

Interesting. I have stopped considering China in my calculations since they’re hardly getting new cases at all.

Have you done a comparison with Wuhan/Hubei? Since China had all the other regions under control from the beginning and never saw an exponential increase there.

China

The numbers in China

9.54am China reported on Tuesday just one new domestic coronavirus infection but found 20 more cases imported from abroad, threatening to spoil its progress against the disease.

The single case in Wuhan will boost China's view that it has "basically curbed" the spread of the virus.

Wuhan and its 11 million people were placed under strict quarantine on January 23, with the rest of Hubei province going
lockdown in the following days.

It's important to keep in mind that the number of cases being reported is also dependent on how widespread testing is. More widespread testing leads to more cases being identified. Fewer tests leads to fewer cases being identified,

This is interesting and scary

Asymptomatic spread

10.10am It's important to preface this by noting that scientists still have many unanswered questions about the novel coronavirus - not least just how easily it can spread among people who show no symptoms - and that an anecdote is not the same thing as evidence.

But this article [in Italian] from Italy's La Repubblica is concerning: a small community in Veneto tested every single one of its 3,000 inhabitants and found that "between 50 and 75 per cent" of those infected showed absolutely no symptoms.
The doctor in charge of that study argues that the key to eradicate the virus lies in identifying these asymptomatic people "because nobody fears or isolates them" currently.

"This is especially true to people like doctors and nurses, who frequently develop asymptomatic infections and continue to spread the infection among themselves and their patients," he said

I am 100% sure Total lockdown will soon be announced

https://timesofmalta.com/articles/view/ ... nts.778754

The last case is a 52-year-old Maltese man who had not been abroad and did not have contact with people abroad. Doctors are contact-tracing his work colleagues but the cause of the infection is currently unknown. It may, however, have been a gym.

I wish they would at least include ages in every case rather than randomly. “Maltese woman who had been to the UK” is so vague. I hope it’s not someone I know.

Re: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Postby IsiahRashad » Tue Mar 17, 2020 12:49 pm

Something which I think will be interesting to share. Please, read this carefully.

Typical Symptoms
COVID-19 typically causes flu-like symptoms including a fever and cough. In some patients - particularly the elderly and others with other chronic health conditions - these symptoms can develop into pneumonia, with chest tightness, chest pain, and shortness of breath.

It seems to start with a fever, followed by a dry cough. After a week, it can lead to shortness of breath, with about 20% of patients requiring hospital treatment. Notably, the COVID-19 infection rarely seems to cause a runny nose, sneezing, or sore throat (these symptoms have been observed in only about 5% of patients). Sore throat, sneezing, and stuffy nose are most often signs of a cold.

80% of cases are mild
Based on all 72,314 cases of COVID-19 confirmed, suspected, and asymptomatic cases in China as of February 11, a paper by the Chinese CCDC released on February 17 and published in the Chinese Journal of Epidemiology has found that:
80.9% of infections are mild (with flu-like symptoms) and can recover at home.
13.8% are severe, developing severe diseases including pneumonia and shortness of breath.
4.7% as critical and can include: respiratory failure, septic shock, and multi-organ failure.
in about 2% of reported cases the virus is fatal.
Risk of death increases the older you are.
Relatively few cases are seen among children.

Pre-existing illnesses that put patients at higher risk:
-cardiovascular disease
-diabetes
-chronic respiratory disease
-hypertension
That said, some otherwise healthy people do seem to develop a severe form of pneumonia after being infected by the virus. The reason for this is being investigated.

How long do symptoms last?
Using available preliminary data, the Report of the WHO-China Joint Mission published on Feb. 28 by WHO, which is based on 55,924 laboratory confirmed cases, observed the following median time from symptoms onset to clinical recovery:
-mild cases: approximately 2 weeks.
-severe or critical disease: 3 - 6 weeks.
-time from onset to the development of severe disease (including hypoxia): 1 week.
-Among patients who have died, the time from symptom onset to outcome ranges from 2 - 8 weeks.

Just came back from a walk in the countryside ...
For the Maltese opposite the Attard Speed Camera.
I guess if I had to continue I would have arrived in Qormi , I was probably in Wied il Kbir

I saw some other 20 something ppl doing like me.
There were four (Portuguese) children with their parents playing football

I felt refreshed as I was getting mad.

I was going to mention Central Link in fact. To be honest I didn’t know you can go there, I thought they were private fields.

He's kind of riding on the situation to score political points with the anti-foreigner brigade. He can't really do otherwise and it is not something that's going to happen thanks to him. Third country nationals who are not asylum seekers can only live here, and anywhere else really, if they have a work permit/visa sponsored by the employer. They obviously have to go if they no longer have that.
