not sure if it makes more sense to post this here or in the "other sports" thread, but there is a serious outbreak occuring now in Major League Baseball (MLB). It would take too long for me to explain the background, but basically MLB is trying to play a shortenend season (60 games vs 162 normally), and just started this past weekend. Already one team, the Miami Marlins, has 18 (!!) cases develop over the past couple days, and they're already talking about cancelling the season (some teams have only played three games so far). What an absolute mess...

In the space of a week Malta has gone from around 4 cases to over 100 active cases.

65 out of 94 newly arrived migrants by sea have tested positive today.

Haha I was surprised he hadn't posted it as I didn't see the news immediately!

Just for the record, it is of course not good that we had this sudden influx when it was already slowly turning worse with local transmission, but I absolutely disagree with any arguments that will be made about letting people die at sea just because there is a pandemic and they might bring in new cases. I imagine these weren't in the community since they are new arrivals, at least.

Just saw the beautiful news.

Re a possible second wave our PM had said that waves are only found at sea...

He was not lying as the biggest cluster ever came directly from the sea.

I was predicting this outcome in fact the timesofmalta.com did not publish my comment...

How funny ... we are now getting the virus in ourselves.
We opened our Airport for all incl Spanish Brits...

Let the parties and other events to be organized....

How low

Again.... how I wish we had a dictator in the form of Orban as our PM

We can always escort them back to Libya for the them to take care of.
We have to stop this madness along with the pagan marches and the closure of all nightclubs... incl Gianpula , numero uno etc.

Only Restaurants should be allowed to operate and maybe bars

Anyway, we have loads of new cases who have nothing to do with the immigrants. Some 15 local transmission cases, so once you add the migrants we’re looking at 80+ in 24 hours... by far the most we’ve had in a day and an alarmingly high number for our population and size. The numbers are getting higher even without immigration.

Look at this ...

International music festivals drawing thousands of revellers from overseas are heading to Malta this summer, as the country opens its doors to mass events while others across Europe close theirs.

Outlets selling tickets for the events point to “canny” organisers and promoters turning to the island that “currently boasts the fewest active coronavirus cases in the EU”, riding on “a quarantine-free air bridge with the UK”, meaning tourists flying in from Britain will not be required to self-isolate on their return.

Depends on their condition I guess. As far as I know before yesterday’s cases no one was hospitalised.

It’s true that it is very unlikely those 65 will pass it on to anyone else though, at least.

Btw someone I know is one of the currently actives cases... first person I actually know to have got it. Asymptomatic but tbh I wouldn’t be surprised to learn he’s a super spreader judging by his lifestyle.
