I don’t know what to make of actions by Maltese authorities. We are getting close and overtaking much bigger countries in raw numbers, let alone taking into account population size. On the other hand they seem to be doing kore than other governments.

For me first there should be the well being of the people who reside in the country. I wouldn't care about the rest.

Just think. Use your mind please. For example, how can one categorically rule out that the virus actually started in Malta?

Let's say it did NOT originate in Malta, which is quite probable, how could you eliminate the possibility that someone went abroad, contracted the virus and affected him/her mildly, then met and infected someone who just arrived back from holiday. The latter person feels symptoms, gets tested, and the authorities wrongly assume that the case was 'imported'. You can never say...

Maths IS logic.

Just because something is more probable doesn't make it a certainty. The way the authorities speak is as if there is undeniable proof that the patients contracted the virus while on holiday abroad. Because there is NO WAY to determine that, it means they are either:
- taking us for a ride, or
- they have no fucking idea how to handle this

My money is on both. It's very unlikely that local transmission hasn't started yet. Do they really need to wait for someone who hasn't travelled in months before they admit it?

If everything is possible, which you finally admit, then you should agree with me that they should stop passing on their assumptions as facts. So they should either say "probably/possibly imported" or just not say it.

I think they know how to handle the medical/health side, but they do not understand what you explained and more (statistics and their implications and the like). We live in a society where for most people, only what you study for your job/degree is useful. Everything else is quickly forgotten, discarded etc. We are very utilitarian in this regard and it shows. Understanding statistics has nothing to do with the everyday job of a doctor, nurse, or lawyer, so they just dismiss it and its importance.

I agree. Whoever breaches quarantine regulations should get some 3 months in jail, as it is in Italy if they breach the lockdown.

1000 euros is not a big enough deterrent to the average selfish Maltese person, as this proves.
