So if the cold was the factor, isn't it like... easy to take care of? Surely we afford to heat the training pitches if it would save us injuries.

Cold weather can be held responsible for only one thing: Recovery. Warner climates mean better blood circulation and therefore better and faster recovery. So Germany’s cold climate could be the reason why players here might not be recovering as well and as fully as guys who play in Spain do and therefore the likes of Alaba, Boateng and Badstuber have had recurring injuries.

However the weather cannot be held responsible for impact injuries sustained during matches. That could be because of referee failing to protect players against very physical challenges. The referees (federations) in Spain, France and Portugal do their best to protect players but English, German and Italian referees sometimes let really ugly tackles go unpunished.

The solution:
1. Bayern need to have a thorough physical examination of all players before the start of the season and after the World Cup. Possibly with some independent* sports medicine professionals
2. If any player has even the slightest issue get them fully treated by the best sports medicine professionals in the world, even if it means Bayern lose half of their squad for the beginning of the season.
3. If any player ever suffers a serious bone/ligament/muscle problem between October-March then send them for treatment to a hotter place.
4. Actually contact someone like Barcelona to see and learn from their pitch and ground conditions.
5. Hopefully the referees can punish overly physical challenges. Martinez got a tackle from behind against Hannover but the player only saw a yellow for that offense. Before that there was a really late challenge on James or Boateng I believe because Hannover players were frustrated and wanted to “let Bayern know that they wanted to play.” That tackle went unpunished.

Independent = Non-Bayern doctors/physios. HWMW and his team’s position has to be extensively scrutinized this summer. Of all top clubs, Bayern have the worst injury crisis every season this time of the year.

One could further argue that cold weather reduces the amount of injury instances. Since players take longer to recover from their injuries due to cold weather, it means that they are effectively participating in fewer training sessions and fewer games, reducing the chances of suffering a fresh injury.

Our injuries are both frequent and lengthy and thus no single factor could be at play.

Gnabry got injured yesterday. Bayern need to start getting more reliable players. At this rate I can easily see both Coman and Gnabry missing out a potential CL KO game against Real Madrid next year as well.

Scout players with better injury track records or when getting them have a good physical exam with them to detect any problems.

The 2018/18 injury table (average days missed per player):

Image

Unsurprisingly, leading the pack the three clubs which all use the same type of Belastungssteuerung.

It would be nice if this data is somehow mixed with player ages. RB Leipzig's is low partly because their players are very young. Probably that explains why they're doing much better than Hoffenheim.

I've checked out the history in this website.

2014/15: 16th, 68.82 average injury days per player. [source]

2015/16: 18th, 60.12 average injury days per player. [source]

2016/17: 9th, 52.04 average injury days per player. [source]

2017/18: 11th, 51.14 average injury days per player. [source]

68.82 -> 60.12 -> 52.04 -> 51.14, seems like the trend's improving.

That said, we had better days:

Bernat is in the squad in Berlin, unlike the other three.
