I'm just cherry-picking a line from your post, because it highlights why I'm wrestling with myself over whether I want Germany to do well or to fall apart completely.

I noticed right from WC 2010 that (for the most part) the Germans sang and the half-Germans and non-Germans didn't. How does that look to the world at large? The light-skinned guys are singing, and the others are staying mute. It's a form of protest, and it sucks because Germany doesn't deserve that. The country's been at the front of the pack as far as welcoming immigrants and being sensitive to different cultures and religions.

I'll admit my impetus for cheering on Germany is blood-based. However I've never had a problem with them putting out the best eleven, regardless of genealogy. But when those who don't share my DNA can't even be bothered to sing the anthem and act like they're outsiders instead of acting like part of the team and part of the country, then why the hell am I supporting them :?

Kinda agree, kinda disagree... Eggs and chickens...

Thing is, this doesn't seem to happen to other nations. For example, Thiago sings the anthem and he is less Spanish than any German player is German because he was not born in Spain.

Another thing, not even the 'pure' Germans sing it loudly and proudly. Just compare the Mexicans with the Germans.

Our anthem is far less upbeat than most others though... But I agree, the English get it done somehow too

Phillip Max shoulda been in that team. Dude has got more assists this season than freakin Thomas Mueller. (Ok, I might be exaggerating but still, he's the best left back in Germany since Heynckes promoted Alaba fcol.)

He should have, I agree wholeheartedly, but careful with what you say anyway lest it may seem that you're declaring that assists are the most important measure for a left back.

Have a gut feeling that Sweden will beat Germany 1-0 or 2-1. I just cannot see a starting eleven comprising of Ozil, Muller, Khedira and Boateng turning it around!

There's nothing more important for a full back than speed; a measure of the highest priority. There should be, of course, non negotiable parameters such as stats for dribbled by, dispossession, etc, that would make Usain Bolt fail to qualify for fourth division. Having players with similar stats, offensive indexes for an attacking team such as assists for a team that overlaps as much as Germany does IS one of the defining factors as well.

Are you forgetting tackling? Interceptions? Marking?

Well, you may have contracted the disease over the forum, it's entirely possible. I would start with my GP first. If symptoms persist I would recommend a specialist. 8) :P

Jokes aside. If the Germans go home in the Group Stage that has to be the end of Löw and his class of 2010 favorites!

The sweeper role is left solely to CBs, not full backs. Unless you are Neuer of course (a late sweeper) or early sweeper such as an inverted DM tasked with dispossessing Brazil for a 7-1. Interceptions, again, are stats more popular with CBs/DMs. Marking? Do you really log marking stats other than by observation or dispossession/blocking numbers?

Many of these defensive stats you mention are more important in CBs and DMs because you play in pairs where you have a back up. For a full back to try and intercept a pass and fail, the CB covering for your place spells a doomy outlook.
