Yeah Gotze needs to be dropped sooner rather than later. If he is going to play it has to be instead of either Draxler or Ozil, but personally I liked both vs Ukraine. He shouldn't be given any special treatment because he scored the WC winner. The truth is he was the worst player on the pitch, he has never played well in the false 9 role, and he isn't the kind of player that you keep playing even when he's bad until he returns to form, because he's been pretty much bad for a few years now.

What defence, the one that let in 4 against Bayern? Goetze is good but he's played out of position. In the striker position you need a target man, and only Gomez fits that role at the moment. There is absolutely no reason for Gomez not to start each match in this tournament.

That logic is the same logic that Italians use when they say they won convincingly against Germany in 2006, 2-0... scored in the final 2 minutes of ET.

In the meantime, Kicker (which was spot on vs Ukraine) predicts:

I don't think a target man is an absolute must, there are good teams out there which play without a target man or even a ortodox striker. It's more a matter of Götze being absolutely useless for several months now.

Not that I actually want Hummels in any other position than CB, but I'm convinced he would make a remarkable DMF. Defensively solid, great anticipation, strenght, dribbling and passing skills? He would surely work there.

I think Mustafi as RB is worth a shot, although we know how he did at the world cup. Germany needs someone like Schweinsteiger on the pitch, especially without Lahm.

Really missing the Lahm influence TBH. 32 is far too young to retire IMO.
