Aside from Lahm and Schweinsteiger, who were already near the end of their careers in 2014, the 5 best and most talented players on the 2014 team were Neuer, Hummels, Boateng, Kroos, and Muller. They're still all playing at a very high level and holding down starting jobs on some of the best teams in the world. A competent NT trainer could use them to fill out half of a starting lineup with them, and considering that Germany also has plenty of good younger players like Sane, Havertz, Gnabry, Brandt, Kimmich, Goretzka, Werner, Sule, Ter Stegen, Tah, etc., there is a really good team to be had. The only real weaknesses would be the striker and fullbacks, but I would just throw Havertz in as the center forward or, you know, actually call up Volland.

Talking about fullbacks, I wonder if Atalanta's Robin Gosens will be called up by Loew. He's had a very, very good season. He'd fit the style of Loew as well, given he plays as a left winger as well.

He was going to get called up by Loew but then COVID-19 struck.

Yeah, it looks so. Only 3 guys can confirm that - Klinsmann, Löw and Flick.

Nevertheless, there is Oliver Bierhoff and Matthias Sammer, too. They also played huge role in die Nationalmannschaft.
