He would be a great buy for Schalke.....
The Switzerland international's move to Gelsenkirchen is close to completion - but the proposed transfer is dependent upon the German outfit overcoming PAOK

EXCLUSIVE
By Hassan Talib Haji

Basel's Valentin Stocker will join Schalke this summer if the Bundesliga side reach the group stages of the Champions League.

The Germans have thrashed out a deal with their Swiss counterparts for the 24-year-old winger, who will move to the Veltins Arena on a four-year contract for an initial fee of €5 million, which could rise to €8m depending on various add-ons included in the deal.

However, the proposed switch to Gelsenkirchen is dependent upon die Knappen's progression to the group stages of Europe's elite competition, which hangs in the balance after Jen Keller's men were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Greek outfit PAOK on Wednesday.

The Germans travel to Thessaloniki on Tuesday for the second leg and, if they secure their passage through to the Champions League proper, the Switzerland international will complete the move to the Veltins-Arena.

Stocker, whose contracts with the Swiss giants expires in 2016, has netted 58 times during his six-year spell with the club.

Doesn't matter. You can participate in the play-offs for one club and play in the group-stage for another. They changed the rule one or two years ago.

Keller might say goodbye to his job after this weekend. Schalke are playing Leverkusen without Howedes, Fuchs, Kolasinac, Papadopulous etc. :P I dont see it ending any other way than Leverkusen win.

Can you imagine that haha.... I'm all for it. Are they linked with loan deals or becoming actual Schalke players?

That frontline? Then Gomez-Mandzukic-Lewandowski won't be problem.
Kraft
Hummels, Badstuber, Alaba
Schöpf, Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Can, Contento
Müller, Wagner

So they got Aogo from Hamburg on a 1year loan deal. I was always wondering would be able to do outside of this chaotic HSV team. However it's debatable whether Schalke is the right destination.

I wouldn't be surprised should Fuchs be on his way out sooner rather than later. Aside from his first season at Schalke he has been in decline for some time. He's a defensive liability and one-dimensional.

Also Barnetta is on his way out to Italy as it seems.

Thank Goodness! Barnetta imo is a waste of space. why they let Bastos go and kept Barnetta i will never understand. Hopefully for them they can sign Luke Stocker from Basel since they just secured a UCL spot....

They had little choice regarding Bastos. Schalke had a loan-deal until 2014 but Lyon had the option to sell him this summer should a buyer offer the € 4.5m. Schalke had the option to pay that price to keep him, but they were not interested in signing Bastos for another 3 years. The right decision given his age, wages and limitations imo.

Barnetta was worth a try given his low wages, his earlier performances in Leverkusen and his international experience. Didn't pan out. That happens.
