The amount of goals a striker scores is undoubtedly still the best way to judge their effectiveness, but the most regular goalscorer isn’t necessarily the most effective goalscorer.

The ability to get into goalscoring positions is a skill in itself, of course, but at least equally important is how clinical a striker is in such situations. How many shots on goal do they actually need to find the back of the net?

I just calculated the shots per goal ratios for some of the best strikers in the top 5 leagues.

So, here are the stats.

Paco - 0,31 % conversation rate.
Cavani - 0,29 % conversation rate.
Haller - 0,25 % conversation rate.
Lukaku - 0,25 % conversation rate.
Mbappe - 0,24 % conversation rate.
Aubameyang - 0,21 % conversation rate.
Piatek - 0,20 % conversation rate.
Benzema - 0,20 % conversation rate.
Jovic - 0,19 % conversation rate.
Aguero - 0,19 % conversation rate.
Costa - 0,19 % conversation rate.
Kane - 0,18 % conversation rate.
Lacazette - 0,18 % conversation rate.
Icardi - 0,17 % conversation rate.
Firminho - 0,17 % conversation rate.
Lewandowski - 0,17 % conversation rate.
Griezmann - 0,15 % conversation rate.
Jesus - 0,15 % conversation rate.
Suarez - 0,15 % conversation rate.
Plea - 0,15 % conversation rate.
Werner - 0,14 % conversation rate.
Higuain - 0,10 % conversation rate.

Statistics are before the start of today's matches. :wink: :wink:

Inspired by the newest blog post by Manchu, i did some research about the last couple of seasons, and i need your opinion fellas.

14/15 season - 12 games in the CL; Bundesliga - 25 wins, 4 draws, 5 losses; 80:18 goals; Won by 10 points;
15/16 season - 12 games in the CL; Bundesliga - 28 wins, 4 draws, 2 losses; 80:17 goals; Won by 10 points;
16/17 season - 10 games in the CL; Bundesliga - 25 wins, 7 draws, 2 losses; 89:22 goals; Won by 15 points;
17/18 season - 12 games in the CL; Bundesliga - 27 wins, 3 draws, 4 losses; 92:28 goals; Won by 21 points;
18/19 season - 8 games in the CL; Bundesliga - 24 wins, 6 draws, 4 losses; 88:32 goals; Won by 2 points;

14/15 season - Players missed 336 combined games because of injuries.
15/16 season - Players missed 239 combined games because of injuries.
16/17 season - Players missed 138 combined games because of injuries.
17/18 season - Players missed 240 combined games because of injuries.
18/19 season - Players missed 170 combined games because of injuries.

So, how do you think - if we had to play another 2/4/5 matches this season in the CL - would be still champions in Germany ?

Almost all of us agree that the Bundesliga is getting weaker and weaker each season - how can we explain winning the title by only 2 points ?

Our players have missed less games this season compared to every season except 16/17 - the players this season were significantly stronger in that area, but we had a lot more problems compared to recent years. How can we explain that ?

What’s interesting about those stats is that they are not so different than previous years (although worse) with one exception apart from points: goals conceded.

In terms of player quality our defence probably is the best we’ve had in a while, and we also had much fewer injuries, so I really think this has to come down to tactics.
