I think most of us will pick Lizarazu for now. Alaba will take his place when we make an '01 + '13 + '14 team ;)

It's really a bit of a shame that Philipp Lahm is such a beast, because it means that there is no place for Sagnol in that lineup. :(

Willyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!

I chose Martínez over Effenberg because I believe he's by far the superior football player but sure I considered Effenberg due to his leadership and strength but that's more the emotional side whereas I was trying to make the best Starting XI out of both eras.

Say what?!?! Effenberg won the best player award in the Champions League 2000/2001 campaign. You just cannot leave him out. He would be the very first player I would put in from either team, even before Lahm.

He won that award because of his leadership in the first CL trophy for Bayern München in 25 years.

Effenberg was always questioned. I remember those times in the Bundesliga very well. A lot of fans were unhappy with him, too.

Of course, this is true besides his mediocre performances(which they were many) his "lifestyle" and many arguements with players and coaches put him under pressure for the media BUT this doesn't change the fact that Effe was a fundamental player for Bayern success at 2001 and the captain too.

I never questioned his leadership and major importance in our 2001 CL victory.

However he wouldn't make my best Starting XI out of both teams because I followed a teamtactical approach which put quality on the pitch ahead of attributes like winning mentality.

I always smile now when I see that phrase now. How everyone discussed that this team lacked it after we lost everything last year. :P
I always knew we didn't lack shit, okay, may be a CDM at most. Dante was a welcome addition. :D

Spoiler: show
Though, I still expect more from Kroos on this matter. :|

Well you can smile as much as you want but I think Effenberg's loud speaking "winning mentality" wouldn't go along well with players like Schweinsteiger, Neuer or Lahm. They are a completely different generation, their characters have little similarities.

I think in the best European Champions Team Effenberg would have been a major trouble maker. ;)

^I mentioned the same earllier. Probably Kahn only could've saved them from Effe. I still have my doubts there. :|

I guess if they all were to play in the same team now, there would've been troubles.

I can't believe that not all of you have Mehmet Scholl represented on your teams.
