So let me get this straight.

You are forcing Müller into the line up just because he went public and expressed his discomfort with his current situation. Fair enough

But then why did you want others like Renato or Lewy to be sent to the reserves for doing exactly the same thing? \:D/

When did Lewy complain about not playing?

Renato is not Mueller

He even complained being subbed (i.e. remember with Heynckes?).

This is a very minor point, but why is Coutinho taking corners when Kimmich is on the field? I don't mean this as too much of a criticism of Coutinho, because he does seem to a pretty decent taker of corners(maybe the second best on the team, although you could debate this), but his placement just doesn't compare with the exceptional precision of Kimmich. Moreover, since both Kimmich and Coutinho are right-footed, there is no clear tactical reason to have Coutinho take a corner instead of Kimmich. It's not like the situation where we had last season with James's exceptional left-foot taking right-sided corners and Kimmich's exceptional right-foot taking left-sided corners.

Of course, all of this is a relatively minor detail and I doubt getting our corner taker wrong will cost more than 3 or 4 goals this season, but successful seasons are built upon meticulous attention to detail.

It could be because Kimmich can track back and stop a potential counter attack if the corner kick is unsuccessful.

So far I’ve only seen Coutinho on left sided corners which supports this theory, Kimmich stays closer to his position

Obviously our defensive game has been terrible for the last 3-4 years. In fact, all elite clubs are unable these days to prevent opponents from scoring, which also means something to me and that is how defensive game and tactics have become fairly irrelevant as well as defensive players, more precisely old defensive midfielders, who are unwanted in football. Positional play can't replace player's defensive skills.
That's the part I dislike in football for the last 5-10 years and that's killing position #6, #10 and in some way #9.

Coutinho’s corners are FAR from good... Against Köln he took three and they ALL went wide...

Well, I think that we're pressing too high in many areas this season. The last season we were pressing with 3 or 4 players in the opponent's side of the pitch, but we're more fluid at the moment. Our opponents are often using the fast one-pass game or they are using the long ball while trying to not lose the ball in their dangerous area /between the defense and midfield/.

The other thing that I think is making the life of defense harder is the fact that Kimmich is constantly used in the midfield, where he's too slow to work with the ball at times, we're losing the ball in our dangerous area. He's not the brave guy who's playing as a top RB while playing as a 6.
Now this is one of the reasons of Kovac asking for a player like Roca.

1 more thing cost us 2 goals in the first games - Niklas Süle and his back-passing. There was a point where everyone knew that he's going to make a dangerous mistake. Also in the first couple of games I remember Lucas saving us with a good positioning saving mistakes from his teammates.

There is one more thing that I cannot understand - Niko was knows as a defense specialist, but our defense is looking *not so good* in the last couple of weeks. While playing with France, Lucas and Pavard are looking way more calmer than with us. Now we're at the point when Süle will need more than 7 or 8 months to get back on track and at the age of 24 and with 2 very serious injuries on one knee, no one can be 100 % sure that he's going to be the same player like before. We sold Hummels, Javi is not happy and Boateng is going to leave at the end of the season. Now we should add another serious defender in our lineup, the sooner - the better.

Kimmich didn’t play on the 6 yesterday...

Oh and btw that defender thing: someone here was all for signing deLigt and people said we wouldn’t need him and it was stupid... 8 games in :coffee:

Yes, but he played in the midfield most of the time. Martinez is not adding much at the moment, but one of the biggest problems for me is the fact that Thiago is ON/OFF this season. One game he is playing very well, but 3 days after that he's looking unrecognizable.

He set the bar pretty high last season and I hope that he's going to return to his old form sooner than later.

On De Ligt..
