Barcelona are a worry though. If they play with a 433 with Messi, Suarez and Dembele up front then I think our 4231 can take care of it. However, we need to have a backup formation to counter the 442 that Barcelona are playing with recently (Messi and Suarez up top).

I think Bayern must employ their own 442 to counter Barca’s formation. Need to start practicing a 442 from time to time in the BL with either Wagner or Thomas partnering Robert up front.

A few possible 442s that can be used.

^ Guys Any thoughts on this?

Watching Barcelona play is making me feel uneasy. Good luck to Chelsea because they’re gonna need it! Seriously do not want to play Uefalona in the CL until the SF. Jupp will need to get his tactics spot on if/when Bayern face them.

Jupp shall start training the team to play wingerless...
Coman is injured... for God only knows until when.... Ribery is .... not the same as he used to be , and therefore we only end up with Robben...

A three men df with Boa Javi Hummels
Kimmich and Alaba as wing backs
Vidal and Thiago as CMs
Mueller and James behind Lewa

I'd like to see either

Lewy-Müller
James
Thiago-Javi-Vidal
Alaba-Hummels-Boa-Kimmich

Or

Lewy
James-Müller-Robben
Thiago-Javi
Alaba-Hummels-Boa-Kimmich

If Coman's injury is long-term

Barca will kill us with their four man midfield if we play 4141 or 4231. As I said in my earlier posts need to start practicing a 442 to match them in the midfield.

A back three won't be too bad either.

Without Coman in big games, I vote for either 442, 4321, 4222, or 3421.
She’s beauty, she’s grace, if u tell her she only watches football for the attractive players she’ll punch u in the face.

Total ho for Thiago :P

We all know it'll be Ribery, whether we like it or not.

It's hard to justify moving James right now, but I suggest putting him on the LW, Müller central and Robben on the right. Or maybe Müller on the left?

The other option I see is starting Vidal+Thiago+Tolisso

3-5-1-1
If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?

4-2-1-2-1, the formation of the two diamonds, so we can dazzle our opponents :)

Barcelona's best games this season came when they played a simple 442/4411 with no actual winger. They had Paulinho and Iniesta on the sides of the pitch most of the time, and the are doing a very good job adopting that formation.

I believe we can structure a similar formation, but with much more adept players:

Hopefully Jupp tries something like this, and doesn't start Ribery every game...

Same 4-2-3-1

With Thiago replacing either Martinez or Vidal in the starting line up depending on the situation.

James can drift in and give space to Alaba or he can use his magical left foot to provide beautiful crosses.

In my earlier posts I suggested trying a 442 or 343 now it seems even more plausible. A few possible formations.
442

3421

41212

and then the tried and tested 4231

CDM= Martinez or Vidal or Rudy and CM= Vidal or Thiago or Tolisso
LW= Ribery, James or BERNAT

Given that our designated central defenders are Hummels (1.91m), Boateng (1.92m) and Suele (1.94m), I wonder if this (1.923m) is the tallest average central defence height in football history. I can't think of one.

Current top clubs, listing central defenders with at least 3 appearances:

Barcelona: Pique (1.94m), Umtiti (1.82m), Vermaelen (1.83m) and Mascherano (1.74m). Average: 1.8325m
Real Madrid: Varane (1.91m), Ramos (1.84m), Nacho (1.80m), Vallejo (1.84m). Average: 1.8475m
PSG: Marquinhos (1.83m), Kimpembe (1.83m), Thiago Silva (1.83m). Average: 1.83m
Man City: Otamendi (1.83m), Stones (1.88m), Kompany (1.93m), Laporte (1.91m). Average: 1.8875m
