Not just yet for Lahm, but we do need a good backup. I agree that he'll probably decline a lot in a short time, but for the moment he should still be there.

As for Alonso, well he's old so what you say is definitely true. But he's playing better now than the second half of last season. :)

IMO, Philipp should be the first player to get benched if no balance requirements had to be taken in consideration:

Lewy
Costa-Müller-Robben
Thiago-Javi-Vidal
Alaba-Badstuber(Benatia)-Boa
Neuer

Should be our best lineup under those assumptions + Badstuber/Benatia getting back to shape.

Let me just remind you this. Maldini and Zanetti won the CL when they were both 35+
So why are you guys putting Lahm our captain in an elderly home?

Pep tells him he's dropped for two months

Lahm stops training and writes a book about Pep

I want to read that book, make it happen :coffee: :coffee:

When did Lahm decline that badly? Two years ago people referred to him as the best RB in the world, now he's not good enough. God help us, what is happening to this Bayern... After Basti, now Lahm, feck this shit!
Nobody dares to bench a 60 year old Totti because he has the fan support and he won like only 1 domestic title with them, but for us Der Kapitan is just a player like any other... He's just 31 ffs... Those are supporters, I admire them for their loyalty.

Not good enough? I don't think any of us said that. At least I definitely didn't. But he HAS declined a lot since last season IMO. Fingers crossed it's just a phase and he'll improve again like Alonso.

IMHO his decline began when he started to believe that he was a midfielder... :P
He can still play RB but that made him lose some of his touch and edge... Still... We need to look for alternatives and replacements... He's leaving in 2 years anyway...

I agree, although he does make a good midfielder.

Good is not great or world class though... And I know this might be asking much... But those are the times in Munich right now - "good" is not good enough ;)

Definitely. The thing is there was a time when Lahm was needed in midfield and he delivered, but now Alonso is regaining form, we brought in Kimmich and Vidal, and Thiago is fit again. Lahm is no longer needed there and like you said, he seems to think he belongs there now.

I think he lost his form after the injury. It might be also because Pep is restricting his role on the pitch to conserve energy. Lahm stays back more often than Alaba while both are playing as fullbacks
